A Tribute to the Zeiss Ikon

The production of the Zeiss Ikon stopped late last year in 2012. Better get one before the supply dries out! In the meantime, here's a tribute made by Zeiss themselves to the camera. Enjoy!

Zeiss lenses are legendary in its craftsmanship and performance. When you have in your hands a Zeiss product, you know that you can trust it and you’re in good hands. This pedigree has led to its Zeiss Ikon rangefinder camera, first introduced back in 2004, to become a mainstay in many a photographer’s camera bag. If the lenses are that good, their camera has to be as well, right?

Anyway, late last year in 2012, Zeiss decided to focus more on the development, production and distribution of high-performance lenses for photography, cinematography and industrial applications. This meant the discontinuation of the Zeiss Ikon and ending their line of analogue cameras.

In a fit of nostalgia, Zeiss recently posted a tribute to the camera, recalling the birth of an idea, the execution, the melding of two cultures, and the glorious final product. Quite a great read for us analogue lovers. Check it out!
