In one of the biggest photography related moves of the year, (and unexpected if you've been following Leica closely the past few years) Leica acquires Sinar, the company renowned the world over for its Large Format cameras.
In a takeover 7 years in the making, Leica acquires Large Format stalwart Sinar. The press statement reads “With this takeover, Leica Camera AG completes the company’s portfolio in the high-end digital camera segment and further expands its position in the market for professional photographic equipment.”
So far there’s no news on what things would look like on the analogue end. Will we see a high-end, premium large format camera soon? We’ll know soon enough. In the meantime, better make a deal with the devil because you know that camera won’t be cheap and “expensive” is a massive understatement.
