They just say beards are a wonderful thing. I agree! Only, I’d agree more if I had the ability to grow one!
It’s November and what more do we get from this month than just Halloween? Yep, you got that right – beards! Starting out as a quirky way to (or excuse) not shave really has something deeper to it than just glorious facial hair. Movember (quite catchy, really) is dedicated to creating awareness directed to men’s health by growing facial hair.
I think it’s a good idea and the mythos of growing a full chin of facial hair is hitting off in different parts of the world. Aside from the fact that it looks manly (yeah, there are still debates on that,) it actually provides insulation in cold weather. The funny pictures and gifs going on all over the internet is a cool and quirky way to put the idea up.
Here in Lomography, there’s the Movember Beard and Mustahe Charity Competition in Chicago in benefit of The Prostate Cancer Foundation. Ron Swanson, Gandalf and Leonidas will surely approve of that. Good for you, guys. And for fellas like me who can only grow a stubborn stubble, here are a few inspirations from the community. Go beards!
I’d only heard rumors of the Magic Tree. I had no idea if they were true and, honestly, I’m still half disbelieving of it despite the story I’m about to tell you. If you have faith in what I say, I’m grateful. If you don’t, I bear no ill will towards you. But either way, please shout out in the comments what secrets or sophistries you think I found through its twisting branches.
Some people say instant photos bring about a feeling of nostalgia. Although I often use the Lomo'Instant Camera with different crazy accessories such as the Splitzer and color gels, I have to agree there is something about it — dreamy vignettes maybe? — that always makes me want to go back in time and experience it all over again. In the name of analogue photography and good old memories, we passed by some classic spots in Vienna and took one shot after the other. Take a closer look at our gallery.
If you want to know the heart of a person, peek inside his/her wardrobe! And no, nobody famous said that; I only just made it up. But really, don't you think it's true? After all, the way we dress screams our personality; at least for most of us. And that is why, as soon as I land on a new city, one of the things I absolutely must do is find the local boutiques. Sure, I love the fancy chain boutiques as much as the next person, but there's just something else about a local clothing store. It's unique!
Read on dear friend and I will weave a story for you. There may be more questions than answers raised by this peculiar tale. But if it’s clarity you seek, have no fear, things will become clear in time (they always do, don’t they?). So rub the Sandman’s dust from your sleepy eyes and take a journey with me. If you think you have an answer when we reach the end, please do share it in the comments!

Thick smoke, soft breeze, rippled water. For Veronika Gilková, these elements deserve a touch of visual magic. In this interview, she talks about culling nature-based images with intuition and quiet wonder.
