My LomoStory by nural

9

This is the story on how I became accustomed to and eventually became addicted to Lomography.

I still remember it like yesterday… It was August 2007, we were shopping for stuff in a department store (Boyner to be exact) and right when we got the cashier, I saw those weird looking, funky cameras!!! At first I didn’t realize what they were, something with 4 lenses, another with 9, and one even took photos under water!

After some begging to my hubby, I managed to get the most “logical” one to buy: the Frogeye!!! It seemed logical at that time, considering we were going on a summer vacation, to a beach town for that week. I spent 4 rolls of film in 3 days, in a swimming pool!!! But I never forgot the other cameras I saw on that hot August day… Then when we went to Barcelona in June 2009, I did my research, prepared my arguments, even saved the address of the Lomo Store to our GPS. That’s when I started enlarging my Lomo collection, with a Fisheye 2 and an Actionsampler!

After only 8 months, I own the Frogeye, Fisheye 2, Actionsampler, Diana F+ and all the lenses, Lubitel 166 and my Diana Mini is on the way, and I know that I’ll buy a bunch more because now Lomography is a huge part of my life and I’m happy where I am, right here among a billion other Lomographers who share my passion!!!

Summer Hot Spots: A Morning Sunbath in Varazze

This is the story of my first adventure on the beach this year. In the middle of June, I took my first sunbath along the seaside on a small public beach in Varazze - a rather small and unkempt place which I will never return to in the future. Read more to find out why!

Spinner 360: Pull the Cord and Let the Magic Happen!

The story between the Spinner 360 and I goes way back to the year 2010, when Lomography decided to send me a beta model of the Spinner 360 to test. It was a complete surprise! I thought, "What the hell is that?" as I first took this camera out of the package. Then, when my little brother grabbed it from me and pulled the cord, it buzzed and turned 360°! We all had the same expression: "Whoa..."

My Year in Analogue: Something New, Something Old

Hi, everyone! I'd like to share with you my 2014 summary on analogue photography. Some things I did were completely new, while some were my good old habits. This year I learned how to develop black and white film, which I consider my greatest milestone. But the most important thing is that in 2014, I remain in love with Lomography! And the rest? Well, let's see...

The LomoChrome Purple and How Its Colors Convinced Me in the End

I wasn't very impressed when the LomoChrome Purple was first released. At least not so much that I wanted to get my hands on it at once. Of course I liked some pictures but eventually, I wanted to test it and what can I say? It was love at first sight!

The Magic Yet To Come: Part 5

Last week, I received the strangest thing through my letterbox. It was a postcard with this photograph on 1 side. The photo is of me sitting by the sea whilst I was on vacation last year. But I have literally no idea who took this shot – That’s why I came here, to ask for your help on my search for my mysterious photographer and to try and get to bottom of the riddle they wrote me. Please help me if you can!

The World, According to Herr Willie: The Amazon

It was the Amazon which I had longed for my whole life. And when it was finally a set deal that I will travel to Brazil with two of my best friends for the Copa do Mundo (World Cup), we really had to start our adventure in the Amazon. I had known about this magical place deep in the rainforest. There was a lodge run by local people of indigenous background, with wooden houses that float on the water and a limited number of visitors. It was eco-tourism as how it should be. To preserve and to celebrate one of the most impressive locations I have seen so far.

Transient Living: The Craft and the Craftsmen of Denver, Colorado

The people of a city, to me, speak volumes about its culture and sense of community. And that is why I sought out the people who make Denver that much more interesting after the initial period of settling down. My search lead to a few establishments that have contributed to making Denver what it is today. In the second story on Transient Living, I present to you two of such establishments: The Craftsman & Apprentice, and A Small Print Shop.

Lomography Fisheye No.2: Seven Years of Wonder

Exactly seven years ago, I bought this camera from Indonesia's local Lomography community. I remember having some savings in my bank account and just spending it all on this camera. At that time, I browsed the microsite for the Lomography Fisheye No.2 and immediately fell in love with it! Coincidentally, my friend who introduced me to Lomography just bought this same camera for his birthday. My life has changed ever since I had the Fisheye, my first lomographic camera.
