Film Review: Lomography Redscale XR 50-200 120

Have you got a Holga120? A Diana F+? Or maybe even a Belair X 6-12? It doesn’t matter! The Lomography Redscale XR 50-200 120 is perfect for any 120 format Lomo camera !

The Redscale is just oozing with a beautiful range of colors!

My experience with Lomography Redscale XR 50-200 120 started with a famous Italian landscape, in a day of variable weather. It was a cloudy day, the sun was like come and go all day. I used a Holga 120. I loaded the film and I hit the shutter regardless of exposure. I also used the “cloud” aperture with all the shots.

I couldn’t control the exposure with the Holga 120 so I let the sunlight do the trick.

The results were a range of different colors, from light green to dark red. Everything looked vibrant. The skies looked like a painting with varied colors, intensity and hues.

I assume that the greenish photos are like shot with 50 or 75 ISO, then the yellowish or light red photos are like shot with 100 ISO and finally the dark red photos done with 200 ISO. I shot everything with a fixed shutter speed and aperture settings.

Here’s the sequence:

50 or 75 ISO
100 ISO
200 ISO
Or maybe half and half?

All in all, I’m very pleased with the Redscale and the range of colors it produces. It’s like seeing things in a warmer light that is both pleasing and relaxing for the eyes. The added effects also add to the cool retro look of the images. What do you think? I suggest you try the film and see the results for yourself!

The Lomography Redscale XR 50-200 120 gives you full control over your redscale images. With its extended ISO range, you can pick an effect that you want and set the ISO accordingly. Your images will exude a lovely retro feel. See our selection of Lomography films here.
