Vancouver-based artist Mandy Tsung’s paintings of the female form are both surreal and lovely.
*Mandy Tsung* makes use of oil and acrylic paints and pencils to draw her works on graphite, canvas, wood, paper, acrylic, and charcoal. The subjects of her paintings have all been women by far, each of them exhibiting a distinct appearance. Tsung says that since she was young, she has always “felt the desire to both emulate and override the imagery that informs my view of what it is to be a woman.”
Of her work, Tsung says,
The characters in my paintings are meant to be emotive, to communicate personal stories that are open to interpretation by the viewer in whatever way speaks to them. My hope is that they will come away with a new understanding of themselves and the people around them.
