Going to Pagudpud is a bus away from Laoag City. I suggest to you to experience the atmosphere and cool breeze, hot sunlight humidity of Ilocos by riding a non-air-conditioned bus for 60PHP ($1.29). It’s a 2-hour summary of Ilocos Norte’s must sees. You’ll never miss Pagudpud on your bus ride because of the friendly Ilocanos that will guide you, and the huge clam and the word “PAGUDPUD” that you’ll see at the National Highway.
Get a hotel from the various resorts at Pagudpud, Tricycle drivers will guide you not only on the resorts but will offer you a tour around the place. I suggest that you spend the tour the next day because it will cover almost a day in roaming the place.
What you can expect for the 1200php ($26) Pagudpud tour is LOMOGRAPHIC! spend your rolls while your inside the tricycle running at 30-40km/h, go waste your red scale roll at the historic Burgos Lighthouse (I’m not mentioning to go at the top of the lighthouse because it’s mandatory right?). Bangui windmills are one the first windmills in the Philippines. Be sure to tell the guide to stop at the very base of the windmills. It’s worth it! These what south of Pagupgpud will give to you. North part of the place will take you to Kabigan Falls, the famous Marharlika highway where you can see the abandoned ship that was stuck at the shore!
After indulging Pugudpud, take a bus (180php – $4) going to the historic town of Vigan. Vigan will offer you a nostalgic scene. Old houses turned to hotels and cafes, antiques, “Kalesa” ride, and bricked roads. There are overwhelming souvenirs that reflect with the culture of the Philippines and the countries that colonized the country.
Papudpud and Vigan will fulfill your senses. There’s so much too see in the Philippines and these are one of it.
