Through these remarkable black and white photos, former aircraft engineer and English photographer Ian Clark offers us a glimpse on how Singaporean women would usually dress themselves when they head out for the day back in the late ‘60s!
These photos are part of Clark’s “Singapore 1969” set, which also includes seven others featuring daily life in the Southeast Asian island city-state. Taken using a Mamiya C220 twin-lens reflex camera, he described these as “a few of my early efforts,” as they were taken just shortly after he began taking up photography at the former British colony when he was stationed there from 1967 until 1970 as part of his Royal Air Force service.
Clark recalled, “I spent many a Saturday wandering the streets of Singapore with my camera taking pictures and learning how to process film.”
