Summer Hot Spots: Eternal Summer in Venice Beach

Perhaps Santa Monica's quirky neighboring sibling, Venice Beach boasts a whole new culture in itself. I found myself amidst a whiplash of colors and sights. I can't imagine Venice losing its summer vibe any time of the year.

On the coast of Southern California, in Los Angeles, lies the ever so vibrant and colorful Venice Beach. The whole Venice area is a funky place complete with eclectic stores, artisan finds, and unique clothing pieces. It’s a nice place to go people watching — everyone is a unique character and everyone has their own thing going on. The mishmash of all things unique comes together in Venice Beach.

Venice Beach used to hold a celebration called Venice Beach Carnevale during the summer. They have musical and dance performances complete with costumes, fire, belly-dancing, outrageous get-ups, and food. Nobody knows what happened to this, but people are interested in bringing it back. Nonetheless, Venice Beach is an all-year round carnival with its endless sprawl of quirky stalls and street performers.

It’s still very Los Angeles with all the palm trees but the beach is alive with character. You can just stroll around and come across unique little trinkets and creative masterpieces for sale.

And you have people: freestyle rappers, craftmen, artists, skateboarders, 420ers, rollerbladers, bikers, beach bums, tourists, and what have you. It’s all fun and funky in Venice.

And you have stores related to: books, rasta, vintage, motorcycling, skateboarding, tattoos, voodoo, art, fast food, handmade jewelry, recycled things, bottle art.

And you have places for: basketball, building muscle (Muscle Beach Gym), skateboarding (Venice Skate Park). You can do anything in Venice!

But my favorite part is that there’s art everywhere. Venice is a huge art canvass. Everything and everyone in it makes it the quirky Venice that people have come to know.

If you get tired of the jungle that is Venice, you could always just choose solitude. It is, after all, sand and sea.
