Urban Snaps with the Lubitel+

8

Lubitel+ is a camera that I dreamed of for years and luckily for me I had the chance to own it right after my graduation back in February. Since I love walking around Bandung, I just have to bring the Lubitel+ with me. Why? For some reason, I don't know why but all I know is that capturing the hustle and bustle of the city with Lubitel+ is a plus. Read on for some Urbanity+!

Since the first roll until now, the Lubitel+ and I have been walking around Bandung, whether for a lomowalk with my lomo buddies or just the two of us.

At first I was so confused by the viewfinder because to be honest it’s my first TLR, so I had to adjust myself so I could really get the focus distance right. But, seeing the images in the viewfinder after setting the right focus distance is something rewarding. My first reaction was “whoooooaaaaa!” Seeing the image in the viewfinder is quite something, and has now become a lomographic addiction.

Urban life in Bandung is indeed interesting to shoot. I did shoot a lot of photos using the Horizon Perfekt but shooting with the Lubitel+ is different. I have to slow down, look through the viewfinder, set the focus distance and all these routines made me think more and more, of course more using Lubitel+. From the streets, people on the streets, to the cityscapes, I found myself really enjoying my experience with this camera.

These days I encourage myself to do more multiple exposures, from doubles, triples and even high quantity multiple exposure (HQME) that was made famous by the great mephisto19. I shot portraits on the street too, whether strangers that I stumbled upon, or my lomographer buddies who are great subjects to shoot. After all, the main reason that I bought Lubitel+ was to take portraits even though now I do a lot shooting in the streets, capturing the urban life of my city, my beloved Bandung.

Why is there a “+” right after Urbanity? Well, since the Lubitel has a “+”, I decided to title my recent Lubitel album “Urbanity+.” I think there more things, scenes, and people to be observe in Bandung, I just have to open my eyes and grasp every valuable moments then to capture it with my Lubitel+. Maybe if I see things differently, I would develop my point of view to get that extra and that “+” in images that I already took or images that I would took in the near future.

LOMO ON!

The World According to Herr Willie: Gardens by the Bay, Singapore

Singapore, like Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong, is a likely stopover when you fly far. The city is a tiny urbanized hub but it's very favorable if you know some high-spirited locals. I was lucky to hook up with king kimbo (@hakimbo), who showed me around. He took my lame limbs to the Gardens by the Bay, an amazing place which was visually striking. I was hugging some artificial trees there when I found a baby—a very big baby.

    Registering Moments With the Lomo'Instant

Some people say instant photos bring about a feeling of nostalgia. Although I often use the Lomo'Instant Camera with different crazy accessories such as the Splitzer and color gels, I have to agree there is something about it — dreamy vignettes maybe? — that always makes me want to go back in time and experience it all over again. In the name of analogue photography and good old memories, we passed by some classic spots in Vienna and took one shot after the other. Take a closer look at our gallery.
