Newcomer of the Week: Naranjita

A mishap lead her away from film photography for a while but after a few years, after holding another analogue camera, she just can't help but go back to where she really is meant to be.

To lose a bunch of your film negatives is a hearbreaking moment that is just hard to move on from. That happened to this week’s newcomer but we’re glad that she has made a comeback here in our Community! And to great heights, she is truly enjoying her time!

Let’s meet naranjita, our newcomer from Venezuela!

Name: Anyi Álvarez
Lomography Home:
Location:Caracas, Venezuela
Current film cameras: Pentax K100, Minolta Maxxum 7000, Canon EOS Rebel T2 and a borrowed Holga BC 135 while I’m waiting for my Holga TLR and my Sardina.

Please tell us a little something about yourself.

I have been passionate about photography since 1999 but the sad story is that one day in 2008, I lost all of my negatives and stopped shooting film for a while. But now I’m back in the wonderful analogue world!

I’m a very particular person with a strong sensibility but a deep dark humor like a black marshmallow. Haha. Go figure! My nickname naranjita which means little orange was given by a friend to me because of that. I work in the marketing world and right now I am a social media manager in an educational institution. I also studied pastry, I love to sew pretty little things in felt, I love films and I love, love, love music. I’m a dreamer surviving in this city, I refuse to give up.

Lovely black and whites!

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

I found it thanks to my dear friend Oriana (@le_ors) who lent me the Holga 135 BC while I shop my own Lomo cameras. She gave me a tutorial for the page because before it wasn’t easy in terms of usability (creating albums or LomoWalls) but now it’s just a piece of cake!

Now I’m totally in love with this Community like SERIOUSLY I love you all! You make me dream and travel with your photographs!

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

Number #1: Take your camera everywhere you go.

It’s @le_ors and a few shots of cute kiddies!

In this digital age, why still film?

I also shoot digital but I did bring film back to my life because that’s the way it all started for me. It has a unique magic and I want to live photography both ways; in the end we have to scan our negatives to be able to share it on the internet.

Any song or movie you live by? Please share.

A lot of songs! I love music but I will randomly pick one between my favorites: Wait by M83

and my favourite movie is Amélie.

What are you looking forward to in our Community?

I will love for the site to be more friendly for the users; to make it a little bit easier for a newcomer like me to understand how to upload pictures or create an album for example. Oh! And I dream of a mobile app for the site.

Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment? Why?

My Minolta Maxxum 7000 because together we won a photography contest!

Snaps out of her Minolta.

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

A Lomo Lubitel 166+.

Your favorite section or page in our Lomography site?

Magazine:Locations <3

Share your current favorite Lomograph (could be yours or a friend’s) and explain why it is your favorite.

dakadev_pui is my favorite Lomographer right now. I want to live in his pictures. I love the colors and the energy thar vibrates in his photographs, and I love his doubles!

And to those looking into fulfilling their own dreams of working in the same industry, Izzo also shares helpful advice based on her own experiences.

Transient Living: Armitage & McMillan in Denver, Colorado

If you want to know the heart of a person, peek inside his/her wardrobe! And no, nobody famous said that; I only just made it up. But really, don't you think it's true? After all, the way we dress screams our personality; at least for most of us. And that is why, as soon as I land on a new city, one of the things I absolutely must do is find the local boutiques. Sure, I love the fancy chain boutiques as much as the next person, but there's just something else about a local clothing store. It's unique!
