Bascially there are four menu points:

  • Albums
  • Selection
  • Image
  • Upload

Upload

Upload is for uploading images (well, what else?): just hit upload, select some files and wait for them to finish. You can select more than one picture at once.

Albums

In Albums you can select the albums you want to edit. There are two special albums: Trash (all the images which are removed from your albums) and Unsorted (all the images you haven’t moved to an album yet). You can also create new albums here. If you want to edit an album simply doubleclick on it and it will open in Selection. Or select an album by clicking on it – if you want to select multiple albums just hold CTRL (Windows) or APPLE (OSX) to do so. You can even select ranges by clicking on the first album you want to select, holding SHIFT, then clicking on the last album – all albums in between will be selected.

Selection

So to get into Selection view you have to select some albums to work with. In this view all those albums are opened and you can see the images. All images can be sorted within the albums by drag and drop. You can even drag images from one album to the other.

Image

To get into Image view you have to select some images.

The general flow is always from Albums to Selection to Image. Apart from moving the images around you can also apply tags to your selection. If you are in the Albums view and have one album selected, adding the tag “summer” will add this tag to all images within this album. If you are in Selection view and have one or multiple images selected adding the tag “summer” will add this to your selection. In Image view only the currently shown image will receive the new tag. Same goes for cameras, film and location.

How to start?

  • Prepare some images you want to upload
  • Go to Upload, click the upload button and select some of your images
  • Wait until they are uploaded
  • Go to Album view and doubleclick the Unsorted album
  • Now you should see your images
  • Create some new albums to organise your shots, do so by clicking Create Album
  • Drag and drop the images to the albums (remember you can select more by holding SHIFT or working with CTRL/APPLE).
  • Clicking on the album name will give you the option to rename it

Everything clear? We want to get your feedback on the functionality. Or do you have any ideas on how to improve it? Are there any features you are missing? Bugs? Open questions? Anything else?

To make your albums show up in your home you'll have to "make it public" in the Selection view.

Very nice improvement. One thing, when i select multiple (using ctrl), sometimes images dissapers.
A nice feature could be to be able to select images from multiple folders, when downloading.

I uploaded my first album here and the new features are very easy to use. I love being able to select multiple images at a time and editing them. The sorting feature also very cool, especially when you have a bunch to upload and you can sort them into their own albums later. Super Nice!

Resizing is kinda slow even when the images have dimension 768 x 512. This could probably be improved...

And a little note: The "Apple"-key is called Command/Cmd. (:

  5. recurving
    recurving ·

@larslau: thanks, you are of course right - we will change that. but to me it will always be the apple-key after my french design teacher who always used the phrase "click with finger in the apple" (please imagine with heavy french accent)...

Is there any way to add photos to an existing album without having to make a whole new album again?

  12. peter
    peter ·

@awhisker: At the moment the key image is the first image of the album.

@larsau: If you select albums/images a "Remove selected albums/images" link appears beloow "All Your Albums"/the album title.

    @tomk32: Thanks, should be fixed.

@mubblegum: You can select multiple albums in the Albums view with CTRL/Cmd/Shift click; after switching to the selection view the contained images can be arranged to your wishes.

tried to create the new album and succeeded
tried to move the images from "Unsorted" to the new album and not succeeded
they are only draggable in "selection" view (with a single album)

the interface is not intuitive (for me), otherwise I could do it during my 5 first minutes and I simply couldn't

still, assumed that all the rest like it - please explain what am I doing wrong

  18. breakphreak
    breakphreak ·

still, re-checked it - and it does not work - tried to drag and drop the images - in Selection view the new album is displayed only once just when it is created and not later

means that only when I am creating the new album I can drag the images from Unsorted to it and only if the new album was created while I was in "selection".

something is wrong. Peter, would you please explain again what can be done? That's _very_ confusing.

The Magic Yet To Come: Part 4

But if it’s clarity you seek, have no fear, things will become clear in time (they always do, don’t they?). So rub the Sandman’s dust from your sleepy eyes and take a journey with me. For this rumble, we want to see that breathtaking moment, shot at the perfect time. And you showed us what it's like to be on time.
