The Asylum

20

Hiding deep within the English countryside lies this spooky derelict asylum...

This asylum, along with several others, was built in the early 1900s on the outskirts of London. The asylum could hold about 2000 patients with a wide range of mental-health issues. The main part of the asylum closed in the 1990s and has slowly deteriorated over the last few years. Mother nature has reclaimed some parts, while vandals and arsonists have destroyed other parts.

One day myself and a friend decided to have a look round. As incredible as it seems, we just walked in through an open door!

Walking around the asylum was slightly nerving. The slightest unfamiliar noise makes you stop with fear. Is it security guards finding us? A fox running around? Ghosts? Or just a door slamming in the wind. Chances are that it’s the latter, but it’s always worth being alert.

Whilst scary, it is also awesome fun. Walking down huge endless corridors. Exploring old wards and cupboards. Finding suitcases & clothes from patients – you begin to wonder “who were they?” and “where are they now?”.

If you’re reading this and think you want to explore old derelict abandoned places, it’s worth bearing in mind that these places can be dangerous – wet wooden floors can give way and you could end up dead in a basement, or a roof could collapse on you, etc – be careful!

What an eerie place, how odd to find all those things left behind, I guess they must have left in a hurry?! You've really captured the atmosphere of the place in the gallery!!

Near why I live their is an old un-touched asylum that has been borded up for decades. Theres a lot of "legends" about it, I just really want to go into but it's all fenced off.
