When I bought my Horizon Kompakt, it came with two filters you can attach to the lens. But I came up with a way to make your own filters, so you can experiment all you want!
My Horizon Kompakt came with two filters you can attach to the camera: a UV-filter that has a slight greyish look and a warm yellow filter. I figured the yellow filter could be used with black and white photography, to create a bit more contrast. But what to do with the UV-filter? I had no idea. Until I came up with a way to create more filters, that can be used with both colour and black and white photography. In this Tipster, I’ll share my secret with you. ;)
You will need:
- a pair of scissors
- some tape. I used painters tape that can be removed easily
- a pen or marker
- some coloured see through plastic sheets. I used the filters that came with my Lomography Ringflash
- the UV-filter that came with the Horizon Kompakt
Put the uv filter on the piece of sheet and draw a line around it. Make sure that there is some plastic left at the end where the metal bit is.
Cut out the shape you drew and place it under the uv filter. Bend the leftover bit of plastic upwards, so it stands up and aligns with the metal bit. Tape the filter to the metal bit with a small piece of tape. Pop the filter carefully in the camera and off you go!
You can use the filters to add some colour to your lomoshots. Every colour has its own effect. My blue filter created a cool effect; the yellow one gave my shots a natural look. The red and green ones made my shots more interesting. I chose rather subtle colours, but you can go as crazy with colour as you like.
But the filters also work with black and white photography. I used the red one to create more contrast in my pics.
I hope you will enjoy this tipster and I’m looking forward to seeing your results!
