Roadtrip for One: A Railtrip from Como to Milan

1

This is the photographic report of a train trip from Como to Milan in north Italy, using the company's regional trains of the Northern Railway ("Ferrovie Nord" in Italian Language). With my Lomo LC-A Refurbished and an expired slide, I took a picture in each station where the train stopped.

With this report, I’ll share with you a rail trip that I made very often in these past two years just so I can visit the local Lomography Gallery Store in Milan (which is now unfortunately closed).

With a bit of nostalgia, I shall continue to spread my lomolove, and remember with pleasure the good times spent in the store.

The first station is Como Nord Lago, where I took the train at 14:17 local time. These local trains are rather slow, almost all of them take more than an hour to make a journey of less than 50 km!

After less than one kilometre, there is the second station of my city, called Como Borghi, near the local University.

After a steep climb, the train reaches the peripheral station of Como Camerlata.

This is the last station in my city, called Grandate – Breccia. It is near the school where I teach and work.

These stations are located in Portichetto – Luisago, Fino Mornasco, Cadorago and Caslino al Piano, four small towns near Como.

These three photos above were taken in Lomazzo, Rovellasca – Manera and Rovello Porro.

At about half-way, the train enter in Saronno, an important railway junction on the local network.

From Saronno to Milan there aren’t any train stop, so I took some photos inside the train (It was impossible to take photos of the underground stations of Milano Bovisa and Milano Domodossola, because the light was insufficient to shot without a tripod, so I took the two photos above just outside these stations).

After more than one hour, at 15:22, the train reaches the terminal station of Milano Cadorna, near the Simplon Park and few hundreds meters from the local LGS store.

This is time to leave the station and walk!

For this series of photos, I used a Kodak Elitechrome 100 (expired in 2002) and crossprocessed (C-41 development).

Outstanding pictures and article! Perhaps you could have forced and push processed the Elitechrome to ISO 400 for the interior shots and held the camera steady by leaning to a wall or column! Maybe next time and I look forward to your pictures!
