Perhaps one of the most preferred activities in summer is going on an island getaway in some exotic destination with some friends. While some trips tend to end up on the more commercial and tourist-y places like Bali or Hawaii, we’re here to offer you three alternative destinations that you might have forgotten.

Cook Islands

Located northeast of New Zealand, the Cook Islands is comprised of 15 major islands that offer unspoilt beaches as well as a fascinating peek on the culture of the Maori.

The Bahamas

Officially the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, this Caribbean country consists of more than 700 islands, cays and islets. While the most popular destination is its capital, Nassau, there are more laid-back and less commercialized destinations to be found.

Marettimo, Italy

Marettimo is one of the Aegadian Islands located west of Sicily. Tourists aside, it has about 300 inhabitants in the winter and about 700 in the summer, making it a great place to getaway to if you’re looking for peace and quiet.

    You can also add the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia and a lot of other polynesian little paradises.... ;)
