Biographical films or biopics are among the most popular in the movie world, since they offer a glimpse of the life and work of the people many of us only know from history books. Part of this genre’s success rests on the actors that play the title role, so a convincing performance — and appearance — often defines an actor’s career. Out of this fascination for biopics, the Magazine presents a new series called Reel vs. Real, where we put biopic actors side by side with their real life counterparts and introduce the notable films they starred in.
For our first Reel vs. Real installment, we bring you the 2012 American epic drama Lincoln, directed and produced by Steven Spielberg. English actor Daniel Day-Lewis starred as United States President Abraham Lincoln alongside Sally Field as his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. The film takes us back to 1865 and tells us about the struggles of Lincoln to formally abolish slavery in the United States through the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.
