Fun Under the Sun: Cervia Beach in Black and White

Cervia is a charming seaside town, located between Ravenna (a city famous for its mosaics) and Rimini, a popular Italian seaside place. The beach of Cervia, which is long and wide, provides outdoor fun for everyone! Read more after the jump!

The town of Cervia is divided into two parts: the old town and the beach area. The northern part is known as Milano Marittima and is a beautiful seaside resort surrounded by pine trees. Here you can find a wide and long beach of fine sand, along which you can walk for miles!

Nice and friendly animators will entertain you on the beach with dancing and games!

While someone searches for clams and cockles, other “big animals” are waiting on the beach to be ridden by the children!

I took these photo with my rangefinder FED 5 camera, using an Industar 61 lens (which use lanthane glass to have a great contrast), and a timeless film, the classic Ilford FP4+ developed in a classic developer (Rodinal, or R09 One Shot).

The sea is almost always calm and shallow, so it allows you to swim in complete safety; it’s ideal for small children!

The lifeguard towers carefully ensure the safety of bathers, even in the public beach!

Canoes and pedalos are available for rent! All is ready to have fun in the sunny days!

The children certainly will not want to miss playing with the sand! Do not miss the Sand Sculptures World Master, a yearly event set up in the free beach of Cervia, few kilometers south of Milano Marittima!

The large spaces available allow everyone to have fun with kites! I like this place because I can have fun in a simple and healthy way. And in the late afternoon, I also like to stroll in the large pinewood!

The Adriatic coast is known throughout Europe for its touristic vocation since the beginning of the 20th century. The locals are friendly and smiling, and it is a pleasure to stay here for a period of fun and relax!

'Aniki-Bòbò': A Tribute to Manoel De Oliveira

This article is a tribute to the great Portuguese film director Manoel de Oliveira, who died last April 2. With an old Praktica loaded with a roll of black and white film, I captured so enthusiastically his city Oporto (Porto) with its famous Ribeira district, the most characteristic of the Lusitanian town. It was here that more than 70 years ago, Manoel De Oliveira created a timeless masterpiece: "Aniki-Bòbò"!

A Salute to the Masters: Sports Through A Plastic Lens (A Tribute to David Burnett)

The great American photographer David Burnett is famous for his unusual photos of sports competitions. He uses a tilt-shift lens to create miniature fakes, or a simple Holga camera to shoot in black and white. To write this tribute, I used my Holga to take some pictures of amateur sport activities around my city. Take a look after the jump.

Fresh From the Lab: Take Off Your Socks and Shoes - It's Summertime!

Every year, just a few weeks before summer, I dedicate a series of photos to the joy of living outdoors in this good season. One of the most common pleasures is taking one's socks and shoes off to feel the first warm rays of sun on our pale feet, which were prisoners inside shoes throughout the long winter season. So, it's time to take off your socks and shoes and relax barefoot! Where? Of course, on the walls surrounding the beautiful lake! Take a look!
