Newcomer of the Week: Abecd

8

They say you better start 'em young! And why is that? Well, starting people young at something they like is a good practice of not only passion but also of skill.

And doing photography at a very young age is indeed very good! You get to discover a lot of things and apply them at different scenarios. This newcomer from Indonesia has a story just like that! And we’re glad he has found a home in our Community! Meet this week’s newcomer, abecd!

Name: Abraham Risyad Adikuncoro
Lomography Home: abecd
Location: Bogor, Indonesia
Current film cameras: Lomography La Sardina, Lomography Diana F+, Lomography Sprocket Rocket and Yashica MAT 124

Please tell us a little something about yourself.

I’m a 14 year-old junior high school student from Indonesia. I am into photography as far as I can remember. My mom let me shoot a roll or two with her analogue camera when I was only three years old and now it feels like Lomography, just like music, have become a part of my life.

How did you find the Community and who/what convinced you to join?

One day my drum teacher brought his analogue camera (a Canon ftb) and told me a little about analogue photography. And from then I’ve been interested in using analogue cameras.

As you have read the 10 Golden Rules of Lomography, what rule do you apply in your everyday life?

It’s rule number 6: Don’t think! I have applied this rule even before I started with Lomography and read the rules. I just love to shoot everything I see!

In this digital age, why still film?

This is an easy question and it’s unique. I wanted to take my photography skill to the next level, I love the challenge of not being able to see results immediately and being unable to delete my photos after taking them. Those two things made me learn from mistakes.

Any song or movie you live by? Please share.

Hmm… I listened to a wide range of songs, but my favorite one is Northern Downpour by Panic! At The Disco. I don’t know why I like it, I just like it.

Your favorite analogue camera as of the moment? Why?

My first analogue camera, the La Sardina Capri Bagni di Tiberio! My analogue photography skills grew with the camera. And I love the wide angle lens, too! You can Lomograph almost everything you see with this camera!

What is the Lomographic camera you’d want to have someday?

It’s the Lomo LC-A+! I’ve always wanted to have one of them. I’ve seen many people using it and I’ve just loved it at first sight! How small is the camera so it would fit in your pocket, the ISO adjustment, the large range of accessories… I really want to have an LC-A+!

Your favorite section or page in our Lomography site?

It’s the Tipster section. I have found so many creative ways to make an awesome photo from that section.

Share your current favorite Lomograph.

I took this photo when I took a trip to the old part of Jakarta. I saw this empty alley, waited for the right moment to put my La Sardina on the ground, and pressed the shutter button. I really love how colorful the photo is!

Transient Living: Armitage & McMillan in Denver, Colorado

If you want to know the heart of a person, peek inside his/her wardrobe! And no, nobody famous said that; I only just made it up. But really, don't you think it's true? After all, the way we dress screams our personality; at least for most of us. And that is why, as soon as I land on a new city, one of the things I absolutely must do is find the local boutiques. Sure, I love the fancy chain boutiques as much as the next person, but there's just something else about a local clothing store. It's unique!

    Registering Moments With the Lomo'Instant

Some people say instant photos bring about a feeling of nostalgia. Although I often use the Lomo'Instant Camera with different crazy accessories such as the Splitzer and color gels, I have to agree there is something about it — dreamy vignettes maybe? — that always makes me want to go back in time and experience it all over again. A Salute to the Masters: Judo (A Tribute to Sabine Weiss)

This article is a tribute to the street and humanist photographer Sabine Weiss. Considered a living legend in street photography, she likes to photograph daily lives of people, trying to capture the emotions she recognizes around her. Weiss like to photograph people of all ages but she especially loves to take photos of children, masterfully immortalizing their spontaneous gestures and emotions. For this article, I was inspired by one of her rare sports photos of some children practicing judo. Do you want to know more about this great artist? Well, read on!
