Pergamon Museum

3

The Pergamon Museum was built between 1910 and 1930. From 1901 to 1909, a smaller building had occupied the same spot. Dates, dates, dates … You can find a beautiful (and big) building, the surprise is inside …

The first: the Pergamon Altar which was recovered between 1878 and 1886. I have heard in some place that, the pieces survived across the centuries because the inhabitants of the area use them in walls and constructions, but returning to the interior, out of the scope of the sight, the figures… I don´t know if it is true completely, but thanks to it, the figures are preserved noisily.

When I visited this museum, it was forbidden to take photos… so you must be discreet… The new, larger Pergamon Museum was conceived as a “Dreiflügelanlage”. The monumental reconstruction of archaeological building ensembles – such as the Pergamon Altar, the Market Gate of Miletus and the Ishtar Gate including the Processional Way of Babylon and the Mshatta Façade – has made the Pergamonmuseum world-famous. I read today that it has remained closed, for works, during more than one year, so, if someone thinks to visit it … You must consults first if it is possible !!!!
