The Stories Within Pictures #16: The Picnic Days

While Spring is slowly coming to an end and days are getting warmer and warmer, it's just a perfect time for one thing: picnics. But, I do not mean an ordinary one. When a lomographer says the word 'picnic,' then it's all about cameras, great food, taking photos, naked feet, smiles, and having wonderful time.

It was Saturday, 8 o’clock in the morning. A mobile phone rang. It was a very vigorous ringing, but Penny was unable to answer. She was still too tired and it was still too early. When she was already reaching for the phone, the ringing stopped and one minute later a message came: “Get ready for a picnic. I will be there in an hour!”

How can you possibly get ready for a picnic in such a short time? Penny checked her fridge and she found just some eggs, milk, strawberries and jam. ‘It has to be pancakes,’ she decided and tried to wake herself up with a cup of hot black tea and a cold shower. Then, with quick cooking and baking in the kitchen, the bell rang — that awful sound which reminds you that you are still not ready.

“So? Can we go?” her boyfriend asked.

“Well, give me a minute or five.”

“Why are you cooking? We could have bought something on our way to an island.”

‘Men!’ She thought to herself, ‘They are too lazy to cook for picnics.’

“You said an ISLAND?”

“Yeah, you will see. By the way, give me the keys for your bike, I will prepare it for the ride.”

So, it was another surprise for her, not just the island but also a probably very long ride on a bicycle. ‘What should I wear? What camera should I pack with me?’ Thousands and thousands of important questions were popping in her mind.

They set for the ride and even after few kilometers, the island was still too far away. Penny had that strange feeling that they were not on a right way.

“Are we close?”she asked.

“Well, we were a bit lost first, but now we should be on our way.”

However, what he really meant was that they still needed to ride 20 km to get there. But, it was worth it and the reward was delicious and sweet. They rested for a while, took photos of their tired feet and fought with bees and wasps which also wanted to taste strawberry-smelling pancakes.

“And you know what?” he said before they went back home. “The pancakes were a wonderful idea!”

Penny gave him her best smile, but she thought, ‘Men! All picnics would have been ruined without us and our cooking skills.’

The Magic Yet To Come: Part 1

Here’s a random and rather mysterious tale for you folks. Just the other day, I was at a local bar with a few friends. It was much like any other evening; we were sipping a couple of cocktails, recounting our adventures, falling over ourselves with laughter and half-drunkenly meditating on the meaning of life (a scientist once told me it’s 42 by the way). But then something truly strange happened. Read on to hear my story and please make a comment with your guess at the end!
