New York State of Mind: Forever Young in Coney Island, New York

3

If you want to escape from the crowds and the giant buildings of Manhattan without leaving New York, jump in the subway and go to Coney Island !

The first time I went there, it was because I was bored and wanted to see what the last stop of my subway line looked like. And I was not disappointed!

When you exit the station, just go straight and the street will lead you to the beach. Take off your shoes, feel the sand under your feet and grab your camera. Pictures of the sea are a classic — they always look great because they capture what we love the most about this kind of places: the calm atmosphere and peaceful feeling coming from the endless waves.

After photographing seagulls and collecting shells, head to Luna Park, the amusement park facing the sea. The first time I came here, it was closed and it looked like a Zombie movie set. But thanks to that, my pictures look super creepy and I love them.

Later, I came back with my Lomographers friends llablaude and Elodie and we had a lot of fun! It was just like when we were 7 years old and I think you get this feeling when you see our pictures.

That’s what I really like about Coney Island: less than an hour away from the city, you get to go to the beach, have fun in Luna Park and take plenty of colorful pictures. Show me yours!

Lomography x Zenit New Petzval Lens: Wandering Through The Big Apple

There’s something about New York that attracts people, something that makes both visitors from the most bucolic places and tourists from the most cosmopolitan of cities fall in love. Countless movies and television programs have been filmed in New York, and so many songs have been written in reminiscence of the place. It’s not just the Empire State Building, Times Square or Broadway; there’s something special about the streets and the people who walk on them that make spectators stop, look, and listen.

    Changing Seasons: Durham in Autumn

Durham is a beautiful but tiny university city in the north of England famous for its amazing cathedral, which is one of Britain's best loved buildings. When I was studying at the university, I loved to go for crisp, autumnal walks around the cathedral and the river, kicking the leaves and basking in the golden glow of the season. The Lomography Redscale film perfectly captures the beauty of this time of year.

Nothing Happens on Color Film: Street Life in Como As Seen From the Bus

Some weeks ago, I made a tribute to the great photographer Robert Frank and his 1958 black and white series taken in New York from a bus window. He is the master of the ordinary moments, capturing the essence of daily life in a series of free and random sequence of photos where nothing important happens! And as I've written there I wanted to take a similar experiment with color film, which would change the perception of the environment where people live. Read more after the jump!
