ReeLocations: Medieval Castle Cortewalle

If there is one place in my village that could serve as the backdrop to a movie, it would have to be the medieval moated Castle of Cortewalle. Even though there are no actual knights living there anymore, there very well could be... If this were Hollywood that is!

The beautiful medieval Castle of Cortewalle is the pride of our town! This moated castle (which in plain English means: surrounded by water all the way around) dates back to the 15th century. Despite its age, the beautiful white sandstone still makes this castle shine!

For over five centuries, the castle has been home to numerous important people — mostly nobility — with impressive titles such as counts and dukes. Nowadays, it belongs to the local municipality. It is the place where couples come to sign the official wedding papers. Which is just as handy, as the gorgeous park surrounding the castle offers a very beautiful scenery for the wedding pictures.

It isn’t a huge, bombastic fortified building, but nonetheless I believe it would hold its own in any movie that has knights running around, looking for that damsel in distress!

At night the castle is lit up by spot lights, giving it a nice glow (especially when caught on redscale film).

Even in winter when everything is covered in snow the castle still has its charm, though not its usual warmth.
