Lomography Lobster Redscale 110; Put a Lobster in your Camera!

2

Redscale is able to change the atmosphere of your shots completely. Now, there's an easy fix for every 110 lover: The 200 ISO Lomography Lobster Redscale 110!

I was excited like crazy when Lomography introduced the Lobster Redscale 110 film, I stood guard by my mailbox for a couple of days. When it finally arrived, I couldn’t wait to get started. Now, for me, every film with an exotic edge to it has to be tried out in my Pentax Auto 110. It really is my BFF, it accompanies me everywhere I go, and I think its the perfect camera to try out new films – my Pentax hardly ever disappoints. I shoot with two lenses: 24mm and 50mm, and without flash, I’ll stick with being a purist.

The name of the film already puts a smile on my face, it reminds me of Futurama’s Dr. Zoidberg. I decided to get the lobster out on one of the first spring days, when the world was just starting to get a little bit green again. I mean, what’s better than that spring feeling jumping off your shots, I’m sure you Lomographers agree with me?

Now, obviously 110 films are always so easy to use, I think they’re perfect for new Lomographers who are getting their first analogue experience. You just insert the film cartridge in the camera, click it shut and wind the film until you get to your first shot, easy as pie! And the results simply rock, the colours go from a hellish orange to a very warm red. And while bright blue remains blue, there’s this crazy hue about it. Light purple changes into a soft pink, and the greens? They remain green. I just love the skies, they almost turn into a nuclear war orange.

I wasn’t expecting these strong results, maybe more like a pinky orange, a lot more soft? But it all turned out a bit darker than expected, although I have to say it’s not an ugly dark, I adore it! When I took shots of people, they turned out to be a little bit creepy, their eyes are so dark. I’m crazy about the colour range of this film, I was amazed by this apocalypse vibe radiating off my photos. The lobster 110 can definitely be recommended, because while it’s pretty straightforward to make your own 35mm redscale film, it’s a lot trickier for 110 format.

I’m sure I’ll keep on using this film, I love the effect of redscaled shots with a lot of greens in them. I’m already regretting I didn’t buy a lot more! So, you should really try this film if you have a 110 camera lying around, you’ll be amazed by the results, I’m sure that the shots I’m showing you here aren’t close to taking the abilities of the Lobster to the max! So what are you waiting for, get started!

Just yesterday I received photos from my first Lobster 110 film. I think they printed them too dark, but there are a few interesting ones. I plan on a little Photoshopping to lighten them up, and think I can use a couple for bigger prints (8X10 or maybe 5X7) to sell.
