When in Rome

8

Undoubtedly one of the world's most beautiful ancient cities, Rome is more popularly known where the Vatican City lies. I'm sure you have watched the movie 'Angels and Demons' - have you?

Being one of the most visited cities in the world, anyone would realize the beauty of Rome through it’s ancient buildings, and catholic monuments. What else is there to see in Rome? Let me walk you around.

Me and my wife recently went for an unforgettable cruise trip to Europe, and one of highlights was a “free and easy” walk around tour of Rome. We had docked at a port near Civitavecchia and took a one hour train trip to reach our destination. The train trip was worth the wait, as we had the chance to look at the suburban sights of the city.

It was raining hard when we reached Rome, but that didn’t stop us from maneuvering the streets and sights of this wonderland. First stop was a trip to a random restaurant – where we’ve tried a sumptuous Italian cuisine… BURP! Do not ever leave Rome without trying a Rigatoni Con Pajata, a Pizza Romana, and the mouth-watering Gelato! Yum!

The Vatican City alone will keep you busy – as it would normally require you to queue for about an hour before you can go inside Saint Peter’s Basica. We didn’t have the chance to wander around Saint Peter’s Square as the rain was really pouring hard- though once you have set your foot inside, you’ll never stop shooting like crazy. Don’t forget to bring your very dependable LC-A, to capture low light scenes inside the church.

Touristic destinations like the Fontana De Trevi or Trevi fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Colosseum, the Forum, Villa Borghese, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Campo De’ Fiori, Capitoline Hill, and countless Museums are always there to be visited – but one thing which caught my attention was the people. Italians in general are very friendly. There’s so much full of life in this place, from the pretty Vespa scooters, tiny cars, narrow roadways, colorful graffiti vandals (oops!), and old men continuously sweeping their store fronts.

I will definitely be back here – soon!

Transient Living: Armitage & McMillan in Denver, Colorado

If you want to know the heart of a person, peek inside his/her wardrobe! And no, nobody famous said that; I only just made it up. But really, don't you think it's true? After all, the way we dress screams our personality; at least for most of us. And that is why, as soon as I land on a new city, one of the things I absolutely must do is find the local boutiques. Sure, I love the fancy chain boutiques as much as the next person, but there's just something else about a local clothing store. It's unique!

    Changing Seasons: Durham in Autumn

Durham is a beautiful but tiny university city in the north of England famous for its amazing cathedral, which is one of Britain's best loved buildings. When I was studying at the university, I loved to go for crisp, autumnal walks around the cathedral and the river, kicking the leaves and basking in the golden glow of the season. The Lomography Redscale film perfectly captures the beauty of this time of year.
