Losing Control 101 with the Diana Mini

Diana Mini -- a tiny analogue camera with a funny flash that is even bigger than itself. It works like magic with 35mm films.

With the awesome Diana Mini camera, you can make two photos fit in a frame. After shooting a photo and half rolling the film, you pull down the shutter release again. At first, these combinations of frames work just fine. Everything is under control. However, you get distracted by various reasons which lead you to put you put away your Diana Mini, and get held up in a conversation.

Basically, your plans change and you somehow postpone taking photos. Next time you get your Diana Mini in your hand to shoot more photos, quite a while has already passed and you don’t really remember which part of the frame you were about to shoot. There comes a question in your mind: Which photo did I want to put into the same frame with which photo? What did I last shoot?

That is exactly when you quit arranging your photos and start taking photos randomly with ease but without pondering about which ones to arrange together. You don’t think about which photo gets into the same frame with which one. With all these, you can’t avoid muttering, “Diana Mini, you are something very tiny and greenish; but regardless of your size, you can still confuse the heck out of people. Good job!”

Afterwards, you are surprised for a moment. You ask yourself, “Why is it that hard?” Again, you cannot escape asking “Why is it hard to lose control? Keep it in mind that this is your one and only life. Forget about the plans you form to shoot. Do not ponder about the photos in the frames, and live like that!”

The Diana Mini is the ultra-compact, petite version of the Diana F+. This camera takes soft-focused, lo-fi images in 35mm and allows you to change between half-format and square shots with a flick of a switch. Get your own Diana Mini now!

Pushing Boundaries: So I Heard You Like Multiple Exposures

My name is Amber Valentine and I have a confession to make: I’m not really a photographer. I have a website full of photographs, a bookshelf full of cameras, film waiting to be developed, and a wall full of framed pictures I’ve taken. Even so, I don’t really consider myself a photographer per se. I think that Lomography is more about the experimentation and the fun of film than it is about the photography, and that experimentation is part of the reason I have embraced Lomography so.

Pushing Boundaries: Multiple Exposing Film Soup

As you may have read in my previous article, I truly fell in love with Lomography when I combined my Fisheye camera with an old Canon AE-1 for magical photographic results. Last summer, I took so many pictures of flowers that it started to become almost boring for me. My waning interest and the coming winter meant that I had to figure out something else to do with my 35mm film.
