Historically, Shanghai has always been a major trading town, thanks to its strategic and favourable location as a port. Now, it’s time take a closer look at this glorious city in the East, Lomography-style!

The city of Shanghai is known all over the world as a global hub for commerce and finance as well as media, fashion, technology and culture. Located in the Yangtze River Delta in East China, and with an estimated population of over 23 million, Shanghai is by far the largest city by population in the Asia Pacific.

Given its global standing, Shanghai has acquired some of the Western sensibilities that had come unto its shores over the years. Fortunately though, it has not lost its Oriental charms, and therefore giving locals and foreigners alike, the best of both worlds experience.

This is very much apparent in areas like The Bund, a waterfront area located in central Shanghai, and the adjacent financial district of Pudong.

For a more quaint and ancient feel, then you might want to visit Zhujiajiao, a watertown located in the outskirts of the city, in the Qingpu District. Its riverbanks are littered with old historical buildings and shops, that you can get to by boat.

There’s also the Yu Gardens where you can spend a relaxing day admiring the scenery, and basking in the peace and quiet amidst the chaotic urban setting.

If you’re craving for a more colorful and creative atmosphere, then Tian Zi Fang is the perfect place for you. Located in Tai Kang Road in the Luwan District of Shanghai, the area consists of labyrinthine alleyways that houses a number of small craft stores, coffee shops, trendy art studios.

On the other hand, if you’re in the mood for a little shopping, there’s always the popular Nanjing Road.
