The Story So Far with the Lubitel+

20

On February, I graduated with my Masters Degree and I was so happy! No more exams and obviously no more thesis to write! I wanted to treat myself with a present, it's like a present from me to me and the perfect present would be a camera to shoot with after my post-graduate life. So a week after my graduation, I bought the camera I've been waiting for years: the Lubitel+! Here's my story so far with this camera!

Lubitel and I

As I received the package from DHL, I rushed upstairs and opened the package! Oh my! That feeling when you receive the new camera, it’s a feeling I’m not used to until now. I just love the excitement of unwrapping and finally touch the camera. In this case, I was so so excited because Lubitel+ is my first TLR so before go out and shoot like crazy with Lubitel+, I read the manual instructions and read the Lubitel book first to get the feeling and mood, of course to learn how to use this charming sexy camera! I spent hours to read them all and I finally took a photo using Lubitel+

First Lubitel shot

I decided to go out and went for a lomowalk with my dear lomofriend Bebop. I was so excited because this is the first time for me using Lubitel+ and I brought several rolls just in case I went crazy shooting and spend all the rolls! But I didn’t.

Hit the streets!

Of course, I shot Bebop!

Bebop!

Sometimes, my curiosity gets me and makes me want to shoot my shoes using this camera!

Shoes!

I also want to do macro photography with this camera but I’m still figuring out how to do the right focusing!

Eye

The main reason I bought this camera is this camera have 0.8 focus just like the mighty Lomo LC-A+ but Lubitel+ is a medium format camera so much analogue love in it! I just love taking portraits using Lubitel+!

and some other portraits!

After three roll of using Lubitel+, I decided to put a slide film in it and surprise surprise! I just love it! Lubitel+ and slide film is such a perfect combination!

I don’t know why I keep shooting myself if there’s a mirror around me, I guess TLR user would know the answer.

Talking about taking portraits, I took these portraits while my baby niece Nadia was sleeping. Sleeping beauty!

So, here’s my story so far with Lubitel+ and a lot more to come, including a doubles or film swap with a friend.

I simply love my Lubitel+!

@vici woooowww! thank you very much and I take it as a great compliment :D :D . I just really love this camera and for many years I've been waiting for this camera, now finally I have it so it's really a great feeling. Lubitel+ have 0.8 focus just like the LC-A+ and I think that's the key for all my portraits that I took with this camera. Thanks again! :)

Lomography Fisheye No.2: Seven Years of Wonder

Exactly seven years ago, I bought this camera from Indonesia's local Lomography community. I remember having some savings in my bank account and just spending it all on this camera. At that time, I browsed the microsite for the Lomography Fisheye No.2 and immediately fell in love with it! Coincidentally, my friend who introduced me to Lomography just bought this same camera for his birthday. My life has changed ever since I had the Fisheye, my first lomographic camera.

Transient Living: The Craft and the Craftsmen of Denver, Colorado

The people of a city, to me, speak volumes about its culture and sense of community. And that is why I sought out the people who make Denver that much more interesting after the initial period of settling down. My search lead to a few establishments that have contributed to making Denver what it is today. In the second story on Transient Living, I present to you two of such establishments: The Craftsman & Apprentice, and A Small Print Shop.

    My Lomo’Instant Quick Tips

I backed the Kickstarter project for the Lomo’Instant earlier this year and was thrilled to receive it last week. I love how the camera naturally encourages you to experiment with its different features, whether it’s through flashing your multiple exposures with different colors or trying different creative techniques after your shots has been ejected. Here are a few tips from what I’ve discovered from playing with the camera so far (and a couple of tips I want to try out in future)!

Fresh from the Lab: One Roll of Film and the Lubitel 166U

Adi, Ekeu, and I did a lomowalk around downtown Bandung last Saturday, the beginning of November. We planned to use our Lubitel cameras with only one roll of film each. We were inspired by the One Roll of Film Project by four Tokyo-based photographers with their Hasselblad cameras. This is about the one roll of film I shot with the Lubitel 166U, which made me love shooting in medium format even more.

Testing a Yashica TLR Camera After 55 Years in Storage

Though I am not a professional, photography is in my genes. My father was a photographer and technician in the Air Force and accumulated a number of cameras during his life. This is a story about one of those cameras, a Yashica 635 TLR. I brought the camera—after being in storage for about 55 years—back to life with a roll of Portra 160 during the golden hour at Bellevue Botanical Gardens in Washington.

    Object of My Affection: Subbuteo

In my early adolescence, I liked to play table football. For my 12th birthday, my parents gifted me with a wonderful Subbuteo table soccer game set that I had wished for many months! This was my favorite toy until I discovered other interesting hobbies, like ham radio and electronics. So after some years, I gave away this game to other kids. I always remembered this game with pleasure and a hint of nostalgia.
