Friend of Lomography New York and photographer, Kristen Blanton, was at SXSW this year. She got some amazing photographs and had a fantastic time! Kristen wanted to share her experience with the Lomography community so we asked her to give us a little over view of the event and what it was like shooting exclusively with the LC-A+. Check it out!

When told I would be covering the music of SXSW in Austin Texas, I knew I wanted to create photographs that stood out. Originality is vital at South By, because Austin is distinctive. It is weird and by the best sentiments. It procures oddity, inventiveness. It is the glass of Texas, the fine, translucent fiber of the state that reflects beauty of all people types and interests.
Anticipating nine days on foot from 9 AM to well after 2 AM, it was important to pack only the essentials. When time came to choose a camera, my option was clear – I would shoot on the LC-A and the LC-A alone.
I have experience with multiple cameras and formats. I know digital, I know analog. Every interview, backstage vantage point, show and place I would be stepping into, I wanted the L-CA as my solo companion.
To me, the LC-A is made for intimacy. The camera is non-abrasive. It requires no external lenses. It is compact yet mighty. It has manual focus. When photographing musicians in their pre-show routine, in vans traveling from venue to venue, during a meal and in seconds post-set, one must be alert yet empathetic for these moments are genuinely personal. No other camera presented the quality and understanding the LC-A offers.
I spent a few days photographing LA’s the Allah-Las and Nashville’s The Weeks. Each band’s music inspired the photos taken. Cali in the ‘60s, raucous southern long hairs of the present, both beautiful in own rights, were a pleasure to capture on film.
The LC-A provided to be a worthy friend. I am thankful such a gem exists.
