Stop Motion Sunday: The Old Man and the Sea

1

Here’s a great spin to an old literary classic: an illustrated stop-motion summary of Ernest Hemingway’s last major work of fiction, The Old Man and the Sea created by Hagen Reiling and animated by Marcel Schindler.

The Old Man and the Sea is one of the most famous novels written by the American author Ernest Hemingway. It was published in 1952, and is the last major work of fiction that was published in his lifetime.

The novel is a tale about the battle between an old fisherman named Santiago, who hasn’t caught a single fish in 84 days, and a large marlin that took his bait. It also chronicles Santiago’s journey back to his hometown, after he has managed to conquer the creature.

Inspired by this tale, German artist Hagen Reiling created a series of drawings that illustrated the tale, which was subsequently brought to stop-motion life by Marcel Schindler and set to Awolnation’s Sail.
