1

The Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut is one of the finest sightseeing places in Egypt on level with Giza Pyramids and Luxor's temples

In Luxor’s Valley of Kings near sharp rock stands well preserved Temple of Pharaoh Hatshepsut. For long years this women-pharaoh to give food for thought of novelists and proposed the new riddles for Egyptologists. After death of her father Pharaoh Thutmose I she married her stepbrother Thutmose II. When he died in pretty young age there was only one underage successor – Thutmose III, the son of one from his junior wives. So Hatshepsut ruled Egypt on his behalf and occupied throne for 22 years. Even for this time her death is still a mystery, her mummy doesn’t identify for sure, and the version of her death as a result of conspiracy her brother-in-law and nephew Thutmose III doesn’t confirm. But nevertheless his first step as a pharaoh was complete removal her pictures and statues from temples and monuments and changed them to his images.

Hatshepsut Temple was built by Senemut (an architect and admittedly her lover) near the foot of 300 meters rock as a mortuary temple. Temple complex is situated on 3 terraces. In medium terrace wall frescos tells about well-known Hatshepsut’s travel to the Land of Punt (probably modern Somalia). Here represented Hatshepsut’s (she dressed like a man) greetings to thick Punt’s king, also with goods exchange and its transportation. Hatshepsut’s godlike origin was immortalized in Hall of Birth. The ramp leads to the upper halls. For sad Coptic monks (in some periods Hatshepsut Temple was a monastery) destroyed most wall paintings.

So here’s what we’ve been working on: an all new lomography.com

For the last year we've been working on the next version of Lomography. We based our work on the feedback you’ve given us over the years and we wanted to share it as early as possible with you and can’t wait to hear what you think. Just one warning first: it is still in development and things can break. All the photos, comments, likes, homes and everything else were transferred as of October 16th, 2014. So anything you do on next.lomography.com won't be reflected on www.lomography.com and vice versa. Once we are done with testing, everything you did here will be deleted again. So this is a big playground for you to explore.
