Lomography Day Trips: Singapore

Say hello to the roaring Lion City! For this week’s edition of Lomography Day Trips, the spotlight’s on that little-big city state in Southeast Asia: Singapore!

The Republic of Singapore is located off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, one degree above the equator. Formerly under the British possession, this city-state now boasts a lively and diverse culture, as proven by its four official languages: English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil.

Singapore offers a lot of places worth discovering – ranging from the obvious choices such as the popular Marina Bay area, up to the more laid-back and discreet ones such as Keong Saik Road. And since you can count on the country’s efficient public transport, you can be sure that even a short day trip would give you a fun and highly satisfying adventure!

If you’re still undecided on where to start your exploration, then why not start at the heart of Singapore, Chinatown? This district contains a multitude of stalls that sell trinkets and treats, a sea of friendly faces, and perfect spots for taking photographs!

(And also, the Lomography Gallery Store is located along South Bridge Road, right across the street from the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, so don’t forget to stop and say hi!)

If you’re into admiring nature and various specimens of flora, the Gardens by the Bay can be found on the southeast tip of the island, right across the famed Marina Bay Sands. Alternatively, you can also visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens located in the center, just beyond the Orchard shopping district.

For the shopaholics, it’s a given that when you hear the word “Singapore”, you think about the upscale shopping haven that is Orchard Road. But did you know that Singapore also has its share of flea markets — the Sungei Road Thieves Market being one of them?

Whew! Aren’t you dizzy yet from multitude of locations to choose from? Mind you, that’s just the tip of the iceburg; there are still so many more visit-worthy locations out there! So don’t be surprised if one day, you see another Lomography Day Trip dedicated to this awesome city, complete with a new set of destination highlights!
