Paradise and a Bit of Adventure in Camiguin, Philippines

2

Since I started living in Hong Kong, I now feel like I am able to see this city less as a foreigner but more as a local. However, as time passed by, my eyes got a bit tired from the skyscrapers, and I wanted to a more peaceful change of scenery. Planning to break free from work and the city, I eventually booked my flight tickets to this little piece of paradise called Camiguin.

What would you do to reach paradise on Earth? Maybe spend a lot of hours of traveling, just like me!

Going to Camiguin Island in the Philippines took us quite a while. After 3 hours from Hong Kong to Cebu, around an hour from Cebu to Cagayan de Oro, and finally, about 2 hours on a ferry from Cagayan de Oro to reach Camiguin, I believe we really deserved to enjoy this paradise island! And enjoy we did!

Indeed, this tiny island counts not less than several waterfalls, hot and cold springs, and volcanoes that you can visit!

And the best thing about this island is its delightful beaches with absolutely no crowds!

On the island, you will mainly find dark sand beaches.

If you want to watch a beautiful sunset, go to White Islet, where the sand is pure white and the water crystal clear! But please don’t go during the day as there is absolutely no shade — most people who come back from a day spent on White Islet are literally lobster red!

Also take the chance to rent a motorbike and drive around the island. Along the way, you will see beautiful ricefields and nice sceneries, and encounter some locals with their jeepneys.

Chill out and bathe in the hot or cold springs of the island.

If you like snorkeling, don’t miss the Giant Clams Nursery in Cantaan! Some of the giant clams are more than one meter high!

And if you are adventurous enough, be sure not to miss a day on Mount Hibok-Hibok, which is classified as an active volcano! And of course take the time to check the various waterfalls on the island!

See you there someday, maybe!

Rarely Seen Images of New York Showcased in Duane Michals' 'Empty New York'

New York City has long been synonymous to skyscrapers, throngs of people both locals and tourists, neon lights, entertainment, and all things loud and hip. It is, after all, a metropolis, a melting pot of cultures - the city that never sleeps. However, back in the 1960s, Duane Michals was able to capture these photographs of a New York that many people has rarely seen.

A Day with the LC-A: From the Bus, Como (My Tribute to Robert Frank)

In 1958 the great photographer Robert Frank took a series of images of New York's street life with a Leica camera from a bus window, as in these series of photos that I took in my city Como with my trusty Lomo LC-A loaded with a Kodak Tri-X film. This is a tribute to a great camera and to a great photographer! Read more after the jump!

Summer Hot Spots: Blaavand, Denmark (Part Two)

When I was a child, I regularly went to Blaavand, located at the Danish west coast, with my brothers and parents. I stopped going there as I grew up. In 2012 however, we hit the road again. It was my first return visit in about 20 years. I took the chance and packed as many cameras as possible into my luggage. In part two of my journey log, I'm going to show you the pictures I took with my Lomography cameras.

Photographer Michael Ciavolino Tells the Story Behind 'Boat Ride, Rye Beach' (1962)

Photographs with sprocket holes exposed are practically a dime a dozen these days but, of course, this wasn't the case more than 50 years ago. However, former freelance photographer Michael Ciavolino was already able to create one of the earliest examples of this technique back in the early '60s in his groundbreaking photograph called "Boat Ride, Rye Beach." Find out the fascinating story behind this photo, as well as how and why he did it in this exclusive Lomography feature!

    When in London

What makes travel a great experience is the newness of things. The environment, people and culture tend to be different from customs back home. Coming from the Philippines, I found a lot of novel things in the United Kingdom, especially in the city of London.

Two Days and One Night in Vibrant Sapa

For three months last year, I traveled to 11 cities of eight Southeast Asian countries. My first destination from my hometown of Seoul was Vietnam. After 10 days in Hanoi, I joined a group tour to Sapa, an area known for its hill tribes. This is a photo story of my two days and one night in this remote but vibrant place.

It's late October in Copenhagen and summer was well and truly behind us. With the nights drawing in, the chances of going out with one of my cameras was slim. All was not lost at this time of year, however, as it allowed me time to focus on my own personal music projects—I am a professional composer/musician and audio engineer at my own studio by day.
