Lister Park - Bradford

5

Lister Park was crowned Britain's Best Park in 2006 and nominated for the Best Park in Europe!

Lister Park is located a mile from Bradford’s city centre. The park’s history began when the Bradford Corporation purchased the 22ha of former deer park in 1870 for £40,000 from Samuel Lister, a Bradford textile magnate, on the condition that the land should be used as a public park.

Special features include the opulent Cartwright Hall (museum and art gallery), botanical gardens, a beautiful lake, the Mughal Water Gardens and a children’s play area. Unfortunately, Cartwright Hall has been closed due to ceiling collapse (!) for almost one year and it will remain closed for at least a few more months.

You should try one of the rowing or pedal-boats on the newly restored boating lake – I know I did and it was lots of fun!

Facilities:
Car Park, Play Area, Multi Games Area, Bowls, Tennis, Lake/River, Boating, Cafe, Toilets, Flower Garden, Friends Group.

    Changing Seasons: Durham in Autumn

Durham is a beautiful but tiny university city in the north of England famous for its amazing cathedral, which is one of Britain's best loved buildings. When I was studying at the university, I loved to go for crisp, autumnal walks around the cathedral and the river, kicking the leaves and basking in the golden glow of the season. The Lomography Redscale film perfectly captures the beauty of this time of year.

Flying the Canon Flag with the Canon EOS-1N

Who do you think deserves the crown for the best 35mm SLR camera? Canon and Nikon will always be in a two-horse race to the top spot in the consumer to prosumer SLR/DSLR market, having developed reputations as two of the biggest go-to brands. Representing the Canon corner, I can safely say the Canon EOS-1N is by far the best SLR I have ever used.

Behind the Picture: The Fifties in 3D

In 1951, the Festival of Britain was organized as a way of boosting the morale of its citizens just a few years after the Second World War ended. The festival opened on May 4 and was basically a celebration of the British arts, science, and history. One of its most popular attractions was the Telekinema, described as a "state-of-the-art" cinema operated by the British Film Institute and seated up to 400 viewers.

    Lomo Amigos: The Oscillation

The Oscillation are a UK-based Psychedelic space-rock band formed in London in 2006. The band's live shows are a cacophony of growling guitars and hypnotic drum rhythms accompanied by some trippy analogue light shows from experimental filmmaker Julian Hand and light show artist Julian Hand. We gave them an LC-A+ and sent them out into the night! Read on for more.

The World According to Herr Willie: The Amazon

It was the Amazon which I had longed for my whole life. And when it was finally a set deal that I will travel to Brazil with two of my best friends for the Copa do Mundo (World Cup), we really had to start our adventure in the Amazon. I had known about this magical place deep in the rainforest. There was a lodge run by local people of indigenous background, with wooden houses that float on the water and a limited number of visitors. It was eco-tourism as how it should be. To preserve and to celebrate one of the most impressive locations I have seen so far.
