A Walk Through the City in Redscale Tones

Come take a flight to a world of dreamy colours, soft contours and sweet details. Guimarães, a city located in the north of Portugal, where this very own country was born, has been captured in redscale unpredictable colours. Never have its beautiful corners been so magical…

I wanted to try DIY redscale film for some time after reading a few tipsters explaining how to do it. ( How to Make a Homemade Redscale). Finally, on one of the first weekends of the year, I picked a Lomography CN 400 ISO 35mm film, rolled it in the “wrong” way and inserted it in my Zenit EM. I then took the loaded camera with me to a visit to Guimarães.

This Portuguese city is a wonderful place to visit, with plenty of historic and cultural places to explore. Its narrow streets and neat stores, selling handicrafts and typical products are impossible to resist.

The center has a unique charm, with cafes and restaurants terraces along the squares, where you can enjoy the nice weather, good food and a beautiful view. At the time, the Christmas ornaments were still on the streets, so there was an extra magic in the air.

Before I came back home, I still went to a place by the river (Rio Ave) to capture the beauty of nature.

I was really excited to see the shooting results. As soon as I saw the photos I fell in love with the colours, that were everything but red. Redscale is always a surprise, since different amounts of light, sensitivity of film and the camera ISO chosen will always lead to different tones in the pictures.

I have already inserted another upside down film in my Zenit. Let´s see the surprises I will find next time!
