Do something different and do a photo shoot inspired by your favorite poem or song.
Valentine’s Day may be over but that doesn’t mean we must stop celebrating love because as the Beatles would put it, “Love is all we need.”
Love is perhaps one of the most documented subjects in history, romantic love especially. We’ve written books about it, penned songs about it, made movies, took photos. So it’s safe to say that it has been somewhat overdone.
The many ways it’s been documented certainly has. How many “replicas” of Pride and Prejudice has been written? How many photos of couples holding hands and looking lovingly at each other have been caught on film? How many familiar melodic odes about loss and heartbreak have been sang – different words, the same formula?
And understandably so, because no matter where we are, who we are, or how we live our lives, love is constant and universal.
If you’re itching to do a romantic photo shoot but want to do something other than have your models walk hand-in-hand on the beach or hold each other close whilst watching the sun go down, here’s a tip: take your most favorite poem or song about love and use it as your inspiration. Translate it into your film. Have your models act out the lines and tell the story from that poem or song with your photographs, like I did in Doubles with Love: Remember Saying Goodbye and Letting Go.
Guaranteed, you’ll come out with some very interesting results. It’ll be like making a movie but in stills!
