As a Lomographer, you know that you won’t want to follow the beaten track. Likewise, you want something and perhaps, somewhere interesting to bring your date for a dinner to remember.
When you are on a budget or just starting out as a couple, you may want to choose a wallet-friendly restaurant. One possible place in Singapore is Strictly Pancakes.
This restaurant has two branches in Singapore. To the best of my knowledge, this is the only restaurant that pancakes are not just for breakfast. Yet, they don’t serve your run-of-the-mill hotcakes.
You have two critical choices to make: savoury or sweet. You can choose to have your pancakes with the usual suspects of beef and chicken. But for the adventurous, you can have garlic-buttered prawns or crabcake with your pancakes. Or if you have a sweet tooth, you can try its banana-scotch or the lemon curd for the nerd’s pancakes. Either way, the menu itself is a great conversation starter for those of few words. It is also a good way to share different types of pancakes.
Choice of pancakes aside, the branch at Siglap Singapore wins hands down for its airy ceiling.
The ambience is open and friendly. You do have a choice of seats at this restaurant branch – indoors or al fresco, it’s up to you.
Though the seats may be a little cramped, you can still find a few good seats in the restaurant.
These would be great seats to whisper some sweet nothings if your date has not overdosed on the maple syrup.
While you cannot expect 5-star service at a place like this, it is nevertheless an interesting place to go for a different dining experience.
Words from a wise woman (my wife): “A romantic dinner does not mean that it has to be expensive. It’s how you carry the conversation that matters.”
