Tell us about yourself. What do you do for a living? What are your interests?

Hi I am Iskandar Ahmad Rodzai. People like to call me Isz or Eastmoe. I am working as a senior draughtsman at a mining consultant company in Ipoh and I do freelance wedding photography using digital and film cameras. I was born and lived in Miri Sarawak age 9 before my family transferred to Perak. I was raised, worked and married in Ipoh (the capital of Perak) since then. Before I jumped into the world of Lomography, I had already been collecting analogue cameras since 2003. I’ve always been interested in flea markets and figures.

How long have you been a Lomographer and how did you find out about the Community?

It all started 8 years ago when I bought a Hong Kong creative magazine called “Milk”. Even though it was in Chinese and I couldn’t read it, I was attracted to the pictures and columns of the latest action figures/fashion and ultimately found Lomography product reviews there. Thus began my interest to search and learn more about Lomography. Since then, I have been making friends and joining similar-interest groups. I really appreciate the continuous support from my Lomoipoh and analogue photography community as well as my friends from LomoKids/Effekts. I’ve learned a lot from them.

What’s your favorite camera?

My all-time favorite cameras are the Lomo LC-A/Lomo LC-A+ and the Horizon Kompakt.

Can you describe your first memory as if it were a still photograph?

There are so many memories to tell through photographs, and the most meaningful is when I do double exposure. We can tell many stories and moments in one frame and have them appear unexpected.

How do you shoot these photos, and how do you like shooting with the Lomo LC-A+?

I love the MX button and auto/manual exposure. Its sharp lens and small body are easy to bring anywhere and to any event. There are two things i always do with my LC-A+: shoot from the hip and multiple exposure.

Who’s your hero, in fiction or in real life?

Ha-ha, my answer to the “in fiction” is not related with photography. Ok, I love Judge Dredd because the character has a combination of the powers of the police, judge, jury, and executioner. I’d hope to have those powers and be fair and make the right decisions. In real life, I adore Kevin Meredith or Lomokev. He is such a creative person and makes full use of the LC-A camera. He shoots and produces amazing and fascinating pictures. I wish I could meet him one day and share ideas and shoot using the LC-A together.

Your photography shows us the rich culture of Malaysia. Could you tell us about your country?
I’m really glad I’m Malaysian. I love the mixed culture of the people, the weather, and how it offers many tourist attractions. Malaysia still preserves old buildings with outstanding craftsmanship and architecture. I live in Perak where you’ll see many old buildings that have till now been conserved. As I said earlier, I’m into flea markets and Ipoh has “Memory Lane” which I try to make every Sunday morning!

Kindly share your most loved Lomo LC-A+ photos with us.

I am in love with this picture which I took on my wedding day.

Any future plans or tips with your Lomo LC-A+?

My next “near future” plan is to experiment more with shooting underwater or during rainy days. I’ve not got many pictures in these settings, so I’ll make it a point to achieve more of these while on my next vacation.

What’s your advice to future Lomo LC-A+ users?

Do not think about what subject you want to shoot. All that maters is that the subject gives you something to remember! And be smart when handling the camera.

Thanks eastmoe!
