Lomo Cameras Caught in Security X-ray!

12

Have you ever wondered what the security officer behind the X-ray machine sees in your bags? How do they determine the materials based on the images on their X-ray screen? Put on your X-ray glasses and find out!

I have always been curious about the images produced from security X-ray scanners. Last year, a rare chance came when I heard about my friend going for a demo of using these security X-ray scanners. I asked him if I could come along with a few items so that I could have these X-rays images. To my surprise, he said, “Okay, why not? We could use these items to test the machine too!” You know that the rest is history.

The results? Some really unique X-ray images from the security X-ray scanner (I apologize for the quality of the images generated by the machine):

La Sardina Camera
Lomo LC-A Russia Day
Diana F+
Lubitel

According to the person conducting the Demo, the main 3 colors you see in these images represent the following materials:

Blue: Hard materials eg. Metal, alloys, etc.
Orange: Rubber, plastic, gels, etc.
Green: Plastic and alloy of low densities

We tested some toys in the X-ray scanner as well:

@herbert-4 : You know I didn't ask about this :P cos i was more curious about the x-ray images! haha! But so far my overseas pics are ok. To be on the safe side, a lead lined film bag for your films is a MUST :)

    That baby doll looks creepy!
oh boy yes, will the spinner ever give you trouble! the xray machines see what looks like a big metal spike, masquerading as a camera handle...... so yeah, they look at you like your a terrorist for a bit, until you explain that it really is a camera. I was lucky last time I went though, I almost got held up at the security checkpoint, but one of the security workers knew about lomography and told them all how the camera worked, saved my bacon! I also made the mistake of having my cameras mashed on top of one another in one bag.... must have looked interestingly suspicious on the scanner!
