My Dreams For Singapore: 2013 Winners Announcement

We were inspired by all the photographs submitted to the title rumble. Was it much of a challenge for you to express your hopes for the city though your photos? It was quite easy, for the most part, to interpret what they were, even with the multiple layers used through MX! After the jump, check out the winner and some notables!

The results of our My Dreams For Singapore: 2013 Competition are in! Our winner? lawypop!

This “Lubitel 166+”: shot shows a densely lived in city in the background through the many lit windows that comprise the towing apartment blocks. It shows the complexity of our wishes and dreams, which are often multi-layered like this photo. The soft color, balloons, young girl, all symbolise youth and happiness. Stay young, be free to create and find time to do so, especially in the daily grind.

Notable mentions include:

A double with fellow Singaporean hakimbo05, this photo shows a couple jogging while being photographed with Singapore’s skyline in the background. Faded in the sky is a sign, “please hold the handrail”. A plea to get active, be fit, and healthy? That’s a pretty good hope!

Everyone who participated deserves a round of applause because this rumble in particular was about sharing something deeply rooted in us and personal – our beliefs. Thanks for opening up a dialogue with your fellow Singaporeans. Thanks also goes to those Lomographers from the USA, Lithuania, the UK, and Spain to name a few, who took interest and shared their dreams for their cities with us.

Let’s work towards developing and achieving these universal dreams – 2013 is here after all!

The Magic Yet To Come: Part 1

Here’s a random and rather mysterious tale for you folks. Just the other day, I was at a local bar with a few friends. It was much like any other evening; we were sipping a couple of cocktails, recounting our adventures, falling over ourselves with laughter and half-drunkenly meditating on the meaning of life (a scientist once told me it’s 42 by the way). But then something truly strange happened. Read on to hear my story and please make a comment with your guess at the end!

    My Lomo’Instant Quick Tips

I backed the Kickstarter project for the Lomo’Instant earlier this year and was thrilled to receive it last week. I love how the camera naturally encourages you to experiment with its different features, whether it’s through flashing your multiple exposures with different colors or trying different creative techniques after your shots has been ejected. Here are a few tips from what I’ve discovered from playing with the camera so far (and a couple of tips I want to try out in future)!

Painting Delights: Going Wild with the Pixelstick

Ever since light painting was invented, it inspired artists from all around the globe to magical creations that capture hidden movements and reinvent the world we live in. "Life is a fairy tale, stay wild little child!" is what they want to tell us. Bringing light to life became the next challenge for anyone rigged with a film camera and a creative mind. Now, how can you take your analogue light paintings from the ordinary to the outstanding? After the carriage came the car, so we definitely need some spacy inventions to follow the old school light pen. So here it is, our new best friend: The Pixelstick!

Happenings on Film: Graffiti Contest for Expo 2015

On the last Saturday of July, the old district of Borgo Vico hosted an art and music festival. There was also a graffiti contest, and the winner will exhibit his work at the Como Business Center for Expo 2015. I used my Zorki 4 loaded with an Ilford FP4+ film to document the event. I focused on the young artists who, amid the swirl of activity, had to concentrate on their large-scale pieces.
