We have asked 25 UK artist, illustrators and generally creative types to customise the La Sardina DIY for a huge exhibition that will run until March. The "Let's Play Sardines" Exhibition will be shown at all three of our Uk Stores. We asked Cléo Ferin to tell us a bit about her work and her contribution to this exciting project.
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I design silk accessories including square scarves, collars and bow ties, I have a passion for textile and colours and am particularly inspired by African prints and 50’s patterns. I am from Paris and and live in London since 8 years, I started the company in 2010.
How would you describe your life in two sentences?
Enjoying designing everyday but working very hard too!! I am also very lucky to be part of other creative and fun projects with my cool friends such as being in a dance troupe!
Where did your interest in art begin?
My dad is a fine artist so I guess I have always been encouraged to be creative, I was inspired a lot by my surroundings where I grew up in Paris, in the African neighbourhood ‘La goutte d’or" .
What materials do you choose to use and why?
I use habotai silk and twill silk. I really like the vibrancy of the colours when printed on silk, it is also the best fabric to wear as an accessory!
Did you enjoy customising your Sardina DIY
Yes!! I was a bit scared too because I have seen previous exhibition with Lomography camera, and they were all so good, I really loved the Tatty Devine and Okido Magazine ones.
Describe your creation in 3 words!
Under the sea!
Anything exciting lined up for 2013?
We are going to do some trade shows early in the year including ones in New York and Paris, we are very excited about releasing spring summer collection 2013 which our camera design is based on.
Thanks for taking part Cléo!
