Curiosity Made Her Do It; LomoKino LomoAmigo Bravebird

A LomoGuru, a LomoAmigo, an active member of the Community -- this Lomographer is almost everything you can imagine in this world of Lomography!

But not until she toyed with the LomoKino out of curiousity. Hmmm, this cat sure wasn’t killed but instead, lived and shared amazing analogue movies for us all!

I know her and I know you’re familiar of her, too! Come and say hello to 2013’s first LomoKino LomoAmigo, bravebird!

Tell us about yourself. What do you do for a living? What are your interests?

My life is all about traveling. The further away and the more special a travel destination is, the better. And photography is a good medium to keep records of my experiences and gives my travel blog an urban and exotic touch.

Describe the LomoKino in five words.

Fantastic plastic vintage movie revolution

Kathmandu

How did you like shooting with the LomoKino?

First of all I needed to rethink. So far only one single picture was relevant, whereas in a movie many pictures tell a story, of which some would not make sense alone.

I probably would have to shoot further movies to develop a particular style. But there are basically no limitations for the choice of movies and the later combination of the clips.

What or who has inspired you to purchase and use the LomoKino?

Curiosity.

Two Murphys and a Guinness

Any funny or strange encounters you’ve had with it?

I shot my movies in Nepal and Sri Lanka. Everyone wanted to touch the small “plastic box with the crank” because they had never seen anything like that before. I think for people in developing countries it is hard to understand why someone would go back to an old system on purpose, even though he could actually afford better.

If you could shoot any person alive or dead (or imaginary) with your LomoKino, who would it be and why?

Aah… I don’t know. Why not Dschingis Khan at one of his battles in Mongolia. Me on a camel right behind him. In any case, it should be something adventurous.

Any future plans with your LomoKino? More shoots or a full-length film perhaps?

A music video would be cool. A full-length movie is of course a dream but that’s certainly nothing for a private budget. I need about seven [rolls of] film for one minute. One film reel costs in total around $16 for the film reel itself, its development and the scan service. So if a minute of a cut movie costs $112, a full-length movie would be… Wow!

Your advice to future LomoKino users?

Try to tell a story. Use interesting motives of people or situations. No fear of combining different colours and different types of films (e.g. negatives and cross processed slides). A tripod prevents camera shaking. Anyway, it’s fun!

Do you have something to say about your LomoKino experience? Then drop me a line at mayee.gonzales@lomography.com and you might be our next LomoKino LomoAmigo!

Enter a new analogue dimension with the LomoKino. Lomography’s own 35mm analogue movie camera allows you to capture action and immortalize your story on film! Shoot 144 frames on any 35mm film and create your own cinematic masterpieces. Want to watch your movie the old-school way? We also offer the LomoKino and LomoKinoscope package!

So here’s what we’ve been working on: an all new lomography.com

For the last year we've been working on the next version of Lomography. We based our work on the feedback you’ve given us over the years and we wanted to share it as early as possible with you and can’t wait to hear what you think. Just one warning first: it is still in development and things can break. All the photos, comments, likes, homes and everything else were transferred as of October 16th, 2014. So anything you do on next.lomography.com won't be reflected on www.lomography.com and vice versa. Once we are done with testing, everything you did here will be deleted again. So this is a big playground for you to explore.
