Spreading the LomoLove: A Pre-Wedding Album

'And in the end, the love you get is equal to the love you give,' -- "The End" by John Lennon. I have received more than that in this month of giving.

I believe that most of the lomographers love to share stories, locations or whatsoever behind every lomographs they take. But some people just do not get how and what we, as lomographers, gain the joy and achievement from taking photos that are supposed not to be fine-touched or even erased from the memory card.

In the month of giving, I wanted to surprise one of my high school best friends ,Andrew. I wanted the best gift for him, I wanted him to be happy as I am, as surprised as I am, when he receives the gift I have prepared for him. So what is the best thing in this world that keep me surprised non-stop: Lomography. Well, I just said that some people just don’t get Lomo. Then, I thought, it has been just a year anniversary between himself and his pretty girlfriend, snapped! I decided to invite the couple to have a photo shoot. Surprise + Sincerity = A Wonderful Gift.

Then, I started to research for great place for photo-shooting. Persuading them was not a tough job, the most difficult was to fit in everyone of us’s schedule. Costumes, checked, no problem at all! Eventually we have everything settled and ready to go for a serious photo-shooting.

On the Christmas Eve, we decided to set off at 3:00p.m., but the sky started to darken and a shower to pour at 2:30p.m. 30 seconds after the rain, I received a message from Andrew: “The rain would not stay long. :)” The words touched the bottom of my heart, that is all I can say.

The rain really stopped, and thereafter, there was not a drop of water falling down from the sky. There we go, we started our “Pre-Wedding Album” photo-shooting right away we got to the spot. I lent them a camera each with film loaded, so that they could try taking filmed-photos, as well as an accessory. I have long known Andrew, but it surprised me that his girlfriend was as much energetic and active as he is, they showed no awkwardness, they did whatever I requested, they posed like professionals, they are photogenic, they were the missing pieces to each other, which match perfectly! I enjoyed every second with them.

“It’s film, I don’t want you to have too much expectation from me, okay?” I said.

“It’s you who should not have too much expectation from us, we’re here just for fun!” Andrew’s girlfriend said.

This is not just a gift from me to them, this is as well a great Christmas gift from them to me. I was so thrilled to have such a great time with them, on a Christmas Eve. A true friendship that I can ever have with Andrew. I wish them the very best in life, love, and everything. <3<3<3

My list of resolutions for 2015 consists of 12 projects, one for every month. March was for caffenol. You have probably heard of the amazing fact that you can develop black and white photos with coffee, sodium, and vitamin C. I had tried this before but with less than stellar results. Somehow, there's always something going wrong. Time to devote a few rolls to caffenol to finally get the hang of it.

While I was browsing through my first photo album, I came across a series of photos taken in 1981 during a beach holiday at the French coastal village of St. Gilles Croix de Vie in Vendee. I took these photographs with my first camera that I received for my 11th birthday. Have a look!
