UK CitySlicker Claire: My Analogue Wishlist

1

For this month’s CitySlicker task I was asked to write my analogue wishlist for the coming year. This has been an easy task as I always have some products in my wishlist in the Lomography Online store. Here I talk about a few things I hope to pick up in 2013.

1. Diana Baby 110 Gold Edition

This is currently the product at the absolute top of my lust list. I loved the Diana Baby when it came out but I decided to hold off and see if a new version of it came out. When I saw the gold one I knew I would just have to own it soon. It looks so cute, a bit like jewellery and a bit like a camera, and I love 110 film at the moment after getting a Fisheye and a Pentax Auto 110. Here are some shots from the community that I am just in love with.

2. LC-A+ Splitzer

Also, one of the items I have been dying to get hold of for a little while is the LC-A+ Splitzer. My other half does have one and I am allowed to borrow it on occasion, but I would like it if we could have one each as he teaches me things and then we could go out and splitz together. I have had a go at using it on my own but this happened:

…when I was hoping to achieve some amazing shots like I have seen here in the community:

3. Lomography X-Pro Sunset Strip film

I used one roll of this, which I had got as a gift by accident last weekend. I quite like the colours of the film, which you can see below:

I do wish however that I had used this in a camera with a light meter for slightly better colour results as some of the shots I have seen taken on it are brilliant. Plus I must use it in my Sprocket Rocket for the full effect.

4. Horizon Perfekt

I have had one of these on my wishlist for a long time now and I hope that with my piggie collecting skills, 2013 can be the year I actually get to own one. I used one in London in August and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it (although I just remembered I need to get someone to scan my negatives for me!). It is an expensive camera, but the build quality is really really good and the photos it can produce are just phenomenal here in the community.

5. Lomo Life: the Future is Analogue Book Set

I cannot wait to read these books. I saw an advert for them in an article in UK newspaper the Metro and I have been dying to read them ever since. I had a glimpse of them at the Lomo Store in Manchester and they look excellent – 20 years of Lomography in 2 hardback books is just too good to miss!

Travel Stories: The Bolivian Highlands by lonur

My wife and I suffered a family loss in October 2013 so we decided to shift things around and have a celebration of life—a wedding, actually—to associate our loss with the beginning of something positive and memorable. We have been together for nearly 13 years and after getting married, we headed off on a three-month trip to South America and a few other stops to complete a round-the-world loop back to Australia.

Fresh from the LomoLab: My Summer at a Campsite

I prefer being outdoors whenever I go on a vacation at the seaside. For this reason, I always choose to stay at a campsite instead of a hotel. This year, I stayed at a beautiful one in the south of Italy. Here is a series of photos which I received a few days ago from the excellent LomoLab service, taken with my Sprocket Rocket. Have a look after the jump!

    Object of My Affection: Subbuteo

In my early adolescence, I liked to play table football. For my 12th birthday, my parents gifted me with a wonderful Subbuteo table soccer game set that I had wished for many months! This was my favorite toy until I discovered other interesting hobbies, like ham radio and electronics. So after some years, I gave away this game to other kids. I always remembered this game with pleasure and a hint of nostalgia.

12 Months, 12 Projects: March Of Caffenol

My list of resolutions for 2015 consists of 12 projects, one for every month. March was for caffenol. You have probably heard of the amazing fact that you can develop black and white photos with coffee, sodium, and vitamin C. I had tried this before but with less than stellar results. Somehow, there's always something going wrong. Time to devote a few rolls to caffenol to finally get the hang of it.

The best thing about working for Lomography is having first access to new products. Imagine everyone's excitement when the Lomo LC-A Minitar-1 Art Lens 2.8/32M was delivered to the headquarters in Vienna, where members of the Lomography team took turns testing this tiny yet powerful optic on various cameras. Meanwhile, Tom Bates from Marketing teased out the idyllic and colorful possibilities of shooting with the Lomo LC-A Minitar-1 lens on a trip to the UK countryside.

Two Days and One Night in Vibrant Sapa

For three months last year, I traveled to 11 cities of eight Southeast Asian countries. My first destination from my hometown of Seoul was Vietnam. After 10 days in Hanoi, I joined a group tour to Sapa, an area known for its hill tribes. This is a photo story of my two days and one night in this remote but vibrant place.

12 Months, 12 Projects: July - Freelensing Fun

My 2015 resolution is to do 12 photography projects, one for every month. In July, I tried freelensing or unscrewing the lens from my SLR and holding it in front of the camera body. By tilting the lens slightly I was able to change the focus. For this experiment, I used my Konstruktor and Olympus OM-1.

Falling In Love With The LC-A 120

There are quite a few perks that come with working for a film photography company, and the best perk of all is testing out the latest cameras. I can remember buying my LC-A back in 2009 and being really inspired to shoot film again. When the LC-A 120 came along, I couldn't wait to try it out around London. Join me as I test out this super medium format beauty.
