Your Favorite Shopping Districts: Seven Cities Under One Roof

If you are in Bangkok, Thailand, this is one shopping centre you must visit. Not because of the shops there but rather, because of the unique theme and concept, which makes it a rather interesting place to photograph in color.

During my recent visit to Bangkok, Thailand, for a short city getaway, there was one place my wife and I wanted to check out. It was Terminal 21, one of the newest and more interesting shopping centres in the city. Located along Bangkok’s Sukhumvit shopping district, this shopping centre is a crowd puller.

According to the shopping centre’s website, it brings the visitor a whole new experience of shopping with Market Street Style (whatever that means). I won’t go into the details here as there are tons of websites talking about this place but basically, the concept behind this shopping centre is to bring seven cities of the world under one roof for shoppers.

While you won’t find the stores different from most other shopping centres, what’s really interesting is the design concept. There are 9 floors of shopping fun; starting from the Caribbean theme at the basement and as you work yourself up the escalators, you’ll visit cities of Rome, Paris, Tokyo, London, Istanbul, and San Francisco.

I initially planned to spend only three hours at this shopping centre, but with so many visual delights, my wife and I ended up spending a good part of the afternoon there, looking and photographing the kitschy and iconic replicas of the cities around the world. It was simply fun to see these icons of world famous landmarks.

And yes, we did check out the loo on each floor too (though I didn’t take any photos in there) to see the decor that people were talking about.

Though I went with the intention of photographing the shopping centre, it was the local designers’ section that caught my eye. The designs for bags, clothes and accessories were amazing. Overall, it was a good shopping experience and with the BTS located next to the shopping centre, it is a very convenient stop for many people.

Yes, I think this place could win an Oscar.
