The City of Selçuk: Not Only the Gateway to Ephese, Turkey

3

Selçuk, a worth seeing small town near Ephese, Turkey.

Selçuk is a town near Ephesus (Efes) on the Aegean Turkish coast. We stayed here for 4 days, it was our headquarter for the trips to Efes, Priene, Milet, Didyma, Pamukkale and Sirince. There are many good buys in the charming boutiques and colorful bazaars situated in the picturesque narrow, winding streets of the town. We had few time left, and only visit the Archeological Museum and the town itself.

In fact, we preferred to stay near the pool of our hotel to relax and refresh ourselves, because we were too exhausted by our trips. So, we never had to the courage to climb on the hill to visit the Citadel of Ayasoluk, to take another expensive taxi to see the house of Virgin Mary and to pay a visit to the Basilica of saint John, to the Isa Bey Mosque and to the Turkish baths Museum. I really appreciated the rural atmosphere of this quiet little city, not too spoiled by the tourism .

For me is the best location of your trip! The pictures are soooo human.... I love that spirit! Une vie tranquille et sans problemes! I love that picture of the men playing rummy! It's so natural! And of course, the first picture of your daughter captures it all!

Fresh from My Darkroom: Yoga for Africa!

Last Sunday, a great yoga event was held in Cernobbio, a small tourist town near the city of Como. Local association Breathe Como made a performance of power yoga exercises to raise funds for Africa. I developed the film a few days ago, and today I'll show the photos to you! I call this "Fresh From My Darkroom" because I developed the black and white films by myself! Take a look!

Fresh from My Darkroom: The Secular Fair in Alzate Brianza

Every year in the beginning of September, a small Italian town situated a few miles from my city of Como hosts an ancient fair dedicated to the Virgin Mary: the Fair of Our Lady of Rogoredo. This series of images fresh from my darkroom was taken using a roll of HP5+ film loaded inside my wonderful Horizon Perfekt.

    Ride the Duck in London

In many of the places I've travelled, I've seen small, yellow amphibious tour buses -- the ubiquitous 'Ducks.' In some places the pleasure cruisers are encouraged to blow duck whistles, but everywhere they tour on land before descending into the city's waterway. I decided to become a tourist in my own town and ride the London duck.

If you want to spend a weekend near the sea but do not want to restrict yourself to the usual routine consisting of the hotel and the beach, I recommend taking a trip to Cesena and Cesenatico, two towns located on the Adriatic coast of central Italy. Funkie House in the Hague is a small store 'packed with goodness!' Compared to their store in Rotterdam this is a small boutique, but still they have a very impressive inventory. It must be the most cozy store in town!

A Salute to the Masters: Un Paese, August 2014 (A Tribute to Paul Strand)

This is a tribute to a founding father of photography, the American photographer Paul Strand. In 1955, he released a book about Luzzara, a small town in central Italy, in collaboration with the famous neo-realist screenwriter Cesare Zavattini. To pay homage to this great artist, this summer I personally went to Luzzara to take a series of photos that shows the changes in this little town 60 years after the work of Strand was published.
