Every era of photographers has it´s must-have product and for my generation, the Minox 35 GT is one of these.
The Olympus XA, the Rollei 35 and the Minox 35 GT; all of them were the smallest 35mm camera once. All were a must have, the “This is it!” thing.
Upon holding the 35 GT in my hands for the first time I was puzzled weather or not this would be my most dearest camera even over the LC-A. So light and so small, but when the first film was developed I was disappointed: The pictures were sharp and flawless, in one word: boring. The GT went onto the shelf for a year.
Once in a while I check my camera collection for cameras I never use and sell them, can´t let them sit on the shelf. And this time the Minox was scheduled for sale. I just ran one film through it to say goodbye. When I got it back I saw how much my photographic taste changed. Not boring, the photos were sharp, contrastive and colorful.
I sold the Minox nevertheless. As much as I liked the photographic quality I hated the handling. While very small it became big and clunky unfolded, no chance for candid shots. Setting the aperture and checking the shutter time in the viewfinder and setting the focus all seams unnatural to me. It makes me double check everything.
Didn´t feel good at all.
After all I´m in doubt if I should have kept it. I bought a Olympus XA which handles miles better although is a bit bigger and misses the hotshoe.
So if you have a Minox 35 take your time to test it, if you don´t like it there are alternatives!
Back in the 1990s, Gilbert Blecken was a big music fan and wrote for his own small music fanzine. He would interview bands in between sound checks and take photographs of them. He was never a professional photographer or worked for a company; he simply did it for his fanzine. Twenty years on, Gilbert’s photographs have matured into an amazing documentation of some of the biggest music icons of that era. Doug DuBois spent five summers photographing the small neighborhood of Russell Heights in Ireland to capture the essence of coming of age: the inevitable loss of youth and the imminent transition into adulthood. Those four years resulted in his latest book, My Last Day At Seventeen. The book is a visual tale told through a collection of photographs and gives an alternative perspective through a comic narrative around the same subject. This creative combination of two distinct narratives in one book not only works wonderfully in visual terms; it also serves as an essential tool that lets the reader dig deeper into the story being told, making one go back to the book over and over again, yet from a new perspective, every single time.
My 2015 resolution is to do 12 photography projects, one for every month. In July, I tried freelensing or unscrewing the lens from my SLR and holding it in front of the camera body. By tilting the lens slightly I was able to change the focus. For this experiment, I used my Konstruktor and Olympus OM-1.

Geoffrey Berliner is the Executive Director of the Penumbra Foundation and the Center for Alternative Photography in New York. As the head of an organization whose goals are 'to be a comprehensive resource for photographers at any level' and 'to continue to publicize the impact photography has had and continues to have on culture, history and the arts,' his exposure to photographic materials -from 19th century gems to modern equipment- is so extensive, one cannot even begin to fathom just how much knowledge and experience this man has acquired. His collection of over 2000 vintage Petzval lenses is unparalleled, and the object of envy of both traditional and contemporary photographers. Although such lenses are reputed to require a certain level of skill to be used, Berliner seems to manage them with so much ease, producing splendid results.

My name is Amber Valentine and I have a confession to make: I’m not really a photographer. I have a website full of photographs, a bookshelf full of cameras, film waiting to be developed, and a wall full of framed pictures I’ve taken. Even so, I don’t really consider myself a photographer per se. I think that Lomography is more about the experimentation and the fun of film than it is about the photography, and that experimentation is part of the reason I have embraced Lomography so.
