A large area of red-orange flooring in geometrical pattern, a black, private meeting yard for sports, a green walkway... this comprises the "Superkilen urban park", a dream land for the public. And where's it located? The metropolitan city of Copenhagen that constantly undergoing transformation and expansion. Won't you vist this space to fathom what it means to have a global home?
The Superkilen urban park has three sections and each offer different function to suit the tastes of it’s multi-culti inhabitants and visitors. A venue for public gatherings, sports, or just a relaxing walk with your friends is possible in this 322,917 sq ft public space. Designed by BIG architects, landscape architecture studio topotek1, and Danish artist collective superflex the concept, as stated by BIG artitects founder Bjarke Ingel, is “park for the people by the people as a peer to peer design”.
Superflex is artist group is all about the big picture. What one might have deemed as an ‘insignificant memory’ is what Superflex wants to highlight in their art pieces. As such, the whole park address the phenomena of the connection between people and their memories.
Nanna gyldholm møller, project leader, states that global experiences and stories were collected inorder to create an accurate display of global ‘best practices’ for urban environments. It’s also a site for those individuals to share their country’s stories and practices with others.
To have a free public space that contains no limitations to expression is a beautiful concept to instill in Art. I hope you can find your lost memories while on your own journey in the vibrant park and create new memories with your equally as colorful film cameras too!
