LomoAmiga Stefanie Ringes films with LomoKino

Music is evocative in itself. To further enjoy the magic a musical experience, we are honoured to introduce La Flamme’s videoclip for the titular single of its album, ‘La Magia está en ti’ (The Magic is inside of you). It’s a collection of images that not only works as a promotional piece, but also as a guide to one's emotions. And if that wasn't remarkable enough, some of the images have been filmed with our very own LomoKino!

Name: Stefanie Ringes
Field: Singer
Web: La Flamme on MySpace

Hi Stefanie, tell us a little bit about yourself.

Hi, my name is Stefanie Ringes. I’m a singer, composer, music producer, artist, both Dutch and French, a traveler, a mom too, I have been working in the music industry for more than 25 years and I am in love with life and nature!

How would you end up this sentence? ‘La Magia está en ti’ is:

A way of thinking, a positive thought, that as owner of your life you can sculpt it as you like, you are your own creator, we all have the power and we can’t got carried away by prejudices and others’ negations!

Videoclip La Magia Está en ti.

From your promotional piece, we can identify the ‘do it yourself’ philosophy that we Lomographers love. Why have you opted for this?

I love craftsmanship. This world has turned into a society where only cheap hamburgers, easy to be eaten and with no personality, are made. My way of understanding art has nothing to do with it, it is based on innovation: originality, personality, against commercialism and the easy way, quality!!

We know that you have filmed in the idyllic Empordà in Port Lligat, a place that is directly linked to Dali, why this place?

Last winter I saw a documentary film about Dalí, which I really loved and which was partly filmed in his house in Port Lligat. I loved the images. Its atmosphere awoke my senses. I love Empordà, the whole area, spending my free time there. It is beautiful and I so wanted to film some images for the clip in this part of the Mediterranean coast for the world to see it. ‘La Magia está en ti’ is a positive song about hope. I wanted to transmit this purity and beauty and to breathe this Dalíesque atmosphere!!

We see beautiful images filmed with our beloved LomoKino, what made you film part of the project in 35mm?

I discovered Lomography a long time ago. La Flamme’s first cover picture was taken with the Holga. I love the spontaneous result that Lomography cameras give. Last spring I discovered LomoKino and I loved the idea of trying it and filming a couple of images for “La Flamme.”

How has the creative process with LomoKino been?

During the filming, I have worked with Paz Coral, a photography director, and a famous Lomographer. She masters all these cameras, is used to them and knows how to handle the light. We first did all takes with digital cameras and, then, repeated them with LomoKino. It was kind of risky, because Paz had never worked with LomoKino, but the result was a great and positive surprise!

Describe the LomoKino in five words.

A toy, a lovely and very special tool that gives amazing results.

If you could teleport to any remote place right now with your Diana F+ and a bag of films, where would you go?

New York? India? Egypt? Vietnam? Costa Rica? Ufff! If I were allowed to, I would never stop traveling. I love being on the move. Teleporting is my dream, a fantasy for my future, I would love to teleport!! The exotic fascinate me!!

What projects have you been working on lately? What are your plans for the future?

We are in the middle of the launch of our last cd. These days are really hard for artists, for everybody actually, but we go on with the show the best we can. We are preparing the coming year, with concerts and presentations. We are also thinking about recording a new videoclip and I’m also finishing ShiBa’s new cd, which will be released in 2013 and is called ‘Give me All’.

Congrats Stefani! ‘La Magia está en ti’ is a wonderful piece that perfectly brings the passion for music, art, craftsmanship and the magic that is inside of all of us together.

Thank you, Lomography, for believing in the amazing world of art and spontaneity!

The Kitchen Through the Eyes of 35

Far from the romanticized images we see on television, kitchens are marred by a mesh of savage industrial hardware, organic flesh and bones, and the souls that inhabit it, as photographer Mike Kumagai discovered. His series exposes some of the notions we carry of kitchens and cooking in the only medium befitting of the task: 35mm film.
