Wlotzkas Baken - The Fishermen Houses

5

When you are almost near Swakopmund, following the road of the coast frm Hentiesbaai, just in the middle ofthe desert, you see some colours on the horizon. There, you'll find the most strange village you'll probably see in your life

Wlotzkas Baken is quite difficult to see on the maps. The surroundings are just desert and some old lichen fields, nothing else. Vast lichen fields and the extraordinary Welwitschia mirabilis are unique attractions. The ocean hits the coast so hard that you can find some shipwrecks all along the beach. But what is really interesting for me and maybe for lots of lomographers is the little holiday village itself. The roads are marked with stones and each house has its own water tank. The village is isolated during most part of the year but during the summer, all the houses are full of fishermen.

Each house has a different colour. Maybe they did this not to forget their own house. I loved this place, but just to get lost during some hours. In case you don’t like fishing, the only thing you can do is to take pictures of the houses. That’s what I did. It’s a pity we were so pressed for time (have I written this?), NO, our driver was so pressed for time to arrive to Swakopmund that I could shoot all the houses. Each one was GREAT!

The houses don't belong to fishermen. They belong to holidaymakers (who happen to enjoy fishing from shore). How do I know? Because one of the houses is ours. :-)

Wlotzkas Baken is an awesome little place. 110 houses, almost everyone knows each other. Thanks for the memories.

Summer Hot Spots: Blaavand, Denmark (Part One)

When I was a child, I regularly went to Blaavand located at the Danish west coast with my brothers and my parents. However, I didn't anymore when I grew up. But in 2012, we hit the road again. It was my first visit there in about 20 years. I took the chance and packed as many cameras as possible into my luggage. In this article, I'm going to present to you the photos I took with my Nikon F-501 SLR.

The World, According to Herr Willie: The Amazon

It was the Amazon which I had longed for my whole life. And when it was finally a set deal that I will travel to Brazil with two of my best friends for the Copa do Mundo (World Cup), we really had to start our adventure in the Amazon. I had known about this magical place deep in the rainforest. There was a lodge run by local people of indigenous background, with wooden houses that float on the water and a limited number of visitors. It was eco-tourism as how it should be. To preserve and to celebrate one of the most impressive locations I have seen so far.
